Question ... Coolers, Yeti or other brands ...

Just purchased a privacy tent, portable toilet, gravity-shower bag. Already had a bed tent, JetBoil, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, 300W power station that uses a 40W Max Kobalt battery ...

Yetis are known to be rugged and bear-proof, but the internal space is "sloped" and they cost $300 for a 37 qt capacity. Is there a non-sloped brand that is durable and may be less than $300?

    Stuff.. but not much
I have 2 Ozark Trail coolers. One is a 20 something quart and the other is a 52qt. I've had the 52qt for a little over 5yrs and it will hold ice for a few days during summer months up north but only about a day and a half or so at the lakes down here in the summer.

Nothing is bear proof just bear resistant and would need to be pad locked to be effective.
While moving to a fridge/ freezer is miles better than a cooler I did have good luck with my 35qt pelican( was around $200 when I got it. Have friends that like RTIC and Canyon coolers as well.
Thing with coolers is air inside will rapidly increase your ice melt. Using baskets for food or other dry stuff just adds to that. But packed with drinks and ice the ice lasted way longer.

I also have a small RTIC soft sided that's great for day trips.

A couple of the reviews (which OBVIOUSLY I can trust!) speaks of opening the Igloo a little too hard and breaking the hinge. Another says the rubber close straps can be iffy. Any indications of those during your ownership? The price does seem worth the "risk" (until I have used one for a while, everything is a "risk", even a Yeti) so it is tempting to spend $100 and be done with it until I need larger than 25 qt.

I haven’t really abused it but it’s been in the truck bed for a dozen trips or so

you would have to be pretty abusive to break the hinge

the straps work fine , half the time I only lock one down

if your going to put it in your truck bead while rolling down the rubicon it probably won’t work

if you are boring like me it should be fine

I second the canyon cooler, I have the Outfitter 55, it's big enough for two people for a weekend, and it is durable as heck. I've beat the crap out of it on many trips now. I was able to find a 20% off coupon online that made it $300 when I bought it

I give bears enough credit to break into anything humans can make.

As to "air is the enemy", I get that. Refrigerators work harder when you open them to undo the warm-air mix. Should be no different (even worse) with a container that can only be as cold as the ice you have inside.

I may go Canyon (I could use a visit to the high country before it becomes an arctic wasteland again) or Yeti. I do not believe all things fall into "in for a penny, in for a pound", but getting a decent cooler puts me closer to that $300 point anyway.

If only my "mod-creep" had not broken my self-control ...

Oh, and I work at Bass Pro, so I deal with Yetis all day long. They are overpriced for what you get. I like the canyon coolers latches much better, and they beat yeti in many test videos and such

I own a second hand Yeti. It's nice, but it's not $150 nicer than my Lifetime branded cooler. Just saying.

Last time I went through sedona on a bike i saw a bunch of EV trucks and had commented to my buddy about how if they get stuck its gonna be worse than getting a humvee stuck

Not really sure how they wrecked where they did, not where I expected from the thumbnail.

Are EVs the new SxS when it comes to trail retardation?
