I got a brand new TRD OR and put 2k miles on it. Mostly highway, dirt roads, brushland, and untamed rocky ranch trails.

The stock BFG Terrain Trails were fine until I got a sidewall puncture from big wood splinter driving in the bush. Stock spare got me home fine.

    Now I will either:
    1. Get a new BFG Terrain Trail and replace that single tire, or
    2. Replace all four tires with something like Wildpeak AT.

I'm inclined towards Option 1 because my stock BFG Terrains are "fine", might as well wear them till they aren't. But maybe All Terrains are a good idea since I'm tearing it up.

Is replacing single tire when rest have 2k miles okay?

I'd just upgrade to new tires now and since your other 3 are still good Perhaps recover some funds by selling them off individually or as a set. There are some deals now for Labor Day.

I don't think it will be that easy to sell 3 used tires. I would just get one new BFG and run them until you got some use out of them. The new one will have 2,000 miles less than the others; at 40,000 miles you will not even be able to tell which one was the new one.
Unless you have the extra money and really want to change to AT, then do it, but I think that is a "want" vs "need" and a different decision than the above practical decision.

So that doesn't have a matching spare, correct?

FYI the OEM trail terrains are different from the ones you buy retail. The OEM don’t have the 3PMS and weigh about 6 pounds less and I think have less tread depth maybe

It's a full size spare but terrible tread.

Replace the 1, always keep it on the right rear, rotate the other 3. R/R burns the fastest on Tacoma.

I had a tear in the tread at low mileage when I got my truck. Somewhere around 1600mi. My tires are now close to needing to be replaced and the tread on that one tire is barely a 32nd higher than the others. Putting it on the right rear first is a good call.
