Re: Cracks in the belts. I have had Ford's, GM's and Volvos with serpentine belts going back to the 90's. The serpentine belts all developed cracks early on in their life from new and likewise after replacement. The reccommended life/change interval on the majority of them was 100,000 miles. I changed them at that time and never lost one on the road. My garden tractor has the same type of serpentine belts for the transmission and deck and has the same cracks. I replaced them because they eventually stretched beyond the adjustment range to keep them snug, but they never failed under what I would call "extreme +" service: extremely high RPMs especially for the deck belt, high loads in extreme conditions like high wet grass, etc. It took about two seasons for the cracks to re-appear on the new ones. It's 22 years old and still on the second set of belts (John Deere OEM). Makes me happy because they are expensive but worth it because they last.

Almost had ya beat. 2015, 230/240K miles (keep it on trip). For the record, I do check it when I change the oil and I have a new belt waiting to go on when I have time or when I think I better make time.

7 year old belt with 125,000miles looked like it could probably go another 100,000 miles but glad to have changed it. It only takes 10 minutes and now I have a spare in the truck.

I've posted about this in a couple of other threads. I replaced my factory belt at "around" 100,000 miles. I "THOUGHT" had replaced it a 2nd time at around 200,000 miles. But I apparently mis-remembered. Mine broke a few weeks ago at 250,000. Not only did it cost me another $200 to get towed part of the belt wedged between the pulley and engine block which damaged the seal causing an oil leak which had to be repaired.

Yea, it's a lot cheaper to replace it before it breaks.

134,000 on my original OEM belt with no dry-rot signs or scracks, no edge fraying. I do have a new OEM spare in the back behind the seat. Before 140,000 it's going to serpentine-belt heaven. :proposetoast:

Update: I'm currently at 169,xxx miles on the stock belt. I had it off a couple of months ago when I replaced and repacked my idler pulleys, but it's still not cracked. I suppose I should pick up a new one.

I def have over 100k on mine and it is giving me slight anxiety. I can’t even replace it until I get time to install my high output alt. Sucks having no truck time lol.

Replacing a belt on some vehicles is relatively easy. It's not something you want to do on the side of the road with a Tacoma. I strongly advise replacing it BEFORE it breaks.

Changed mine at 90k (original) and 18 years old. Tech said it looked good for age and mileage. Replaced as a precaution.

My 2017 TRD OR has 151000 klms and I think I am probably past due for belt replacement. Ordered a kit from Rock Auto to include the idler pulleys and getting it changed this week.

Finally got the time to install the new Alt and Belt last weekend. You can see that it was starting to crack. I can’t remember when this one was put in but I’m guessing it has between 100-120. Swapped in a nice Gates belt.

Did you replace all of the idler pulleys?

Somewhere between 100-130K miles so far. One of the pulleys is chirping, getting ready to change belt and idlers.

Nah but it’s on my list. I have to replace my power steering assembly first.

Lol it shouldn’t be too expensive. I found a reman pump from BBB Wilson for like $90 and the tubes and seals can’t be too much.
