Good information for any one who can use.

Who ever came up with the drive mode concept? No matter the manufacturer it seems gimmicky, outside of a tow/haul mode for towing, and I believe any drive mode that adjusts shock damping to make a difference in ride. I don't think the engine mapping makes much of a difference even in tow haul mode.

What I'm getting at is I don't see the benefit to drive modes on any truck, I doubt having drive modes is verying expensive these days. I still think it's an added cost that isn't really worth what it offers. The engine and transmission are already going to do what you ask it to do in normal mode.

While I agree that there are too many modes these days, tow haul is a huge improvement for towing in any truck. In all that I've been in it makes the transmission hold lower gears for longer which is helpful for getting a trailer moving, and in many it will also adjust how aggressively it engine breaks.

My butt dyno is far from sensitive or precise, but even I can tell the difference in several modes. You not understanding them doesn't mean they don't do anything, and your assertion that "the engine and transmission are already going to do what you ask" borders on absurd. I can't tell if you're trolling or just being willfully ignorant and refusing to see the simple facts before you.

Why I prefer manuals for towing, even with tow-haul mode in the autos, they always feel like they are lost and can’t quite get the gear selection correct. This goes for little pickups up to heavy trucks. Especially evident when you’re pulling a heavy load up a long grade and need to keep a particular rpm and speed. Have been in trucks where it wants to bounce between gears.

Have driven manuals most of life, long before “modes” were a thing. Find it annoying, and think just me drive the damn thing, don’t need a computer’s help.
