Can someone explain if the 3rd gen has cylinder deactivation? Is it the Atkinson cycle or actual cylinder deactivation?

No, it just switches injection modes depending on loads, all 6 always fire.

That's what I thought. Saw 3.5 bashers saying it's Same as GM with the deactivation.

You can ignore them, they’re full of misinformation and hate.

    Not relevant, but fun fact

allegedly the V8 4.6L 3V in S197 mustangs has cylinder deactivation that kicks in if the ecu detects overheating, to try to reduce heat… at least that’s what the manual claims IIRC

is this common on other cars?

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
Here's the tech specs of the 2gr-fks. No deactivation.

I don't think any Toyota has cylinder deactivation

    Thank goodness !
They took something from the past that was a problem then and revived it , and made a new problem .
The concept is good but it is something else that will break . Weight and aerodynamics is what gets you gas mileage with out drama . Trucks are terrible on both , but they still try and reinvent the wheel . Why not put a 2 cylinder motorcycle engine in a 350 series truck instead and add a 100 pounds of boost . That will solve the problem lol
