Metal in transfer case oil

Just changed my transfer case oil at 100k. I had the dealer do rear/front transfer case at 40k. So, this is my first time doing the transfer case myself. It actually was really easy (front diff drain plug won't budge). In any case, I noticed some metal in the old transfer case oil. Not big chunks, but smaller flakes/bits in the oil. I haven't noticed any other issues.Does this seem ok? Anything I should be worried about?

 

I won't worry about that. What I would do is change the tcase oil more frequently. If you keep seeing metal in subsequent oil changes, then may warrant further investigation. That metal could have been there from day 1. No big chunks is a good sign.

 

I would not worry too much, and probably wouldn’t consider doing anything about it unless the thing blows up.
