Fourth Gen Code When Transmission Fails

My fourth Gen threw this code this morning. 3TY vin. What am I in for?

 

Oh crap. What’s your build date?

 

End of March

 

What significance does "3TY vin" and the build date have to do with failing transmissions? Has there been a trend of certain VIN and build dates???? Thanks!

 

I read on the forum that the vins starting with 3TY are the ones having transmission problems.

 

thats not a code.... just a warning message.. could be anything remotely connected to anything....

 

The build plant should not matter since the trannys are sourced from same place but if Toyota has already fixed the issue then the build date would matter. Don't think I have seen anyone with a failure after June build date.

I have a 6/24 build date. What is the cutoff....June 1st or June 30th? Should I be concerned? Thanks!

Don't know....you will need to go watch one of the Sheldon videos where he comments about it to see what he says. The laws of statistics are in your favor so I would not be concerned regardless of build date.

 

Mine is a Pro, 3TY VIN, 6/24 build date.

 

Pretty sure all the transmissions are built in the same facility just like the engines

 

There's other variables, transmission cooler, install procedures, filling procedures.

 

At least for the third gen, 3TM (Baja) and 3TY (Guanajuato) received their engines from two separate plants. Not sure about transmissions…

 

It means get thine arse to the dealer. Take a shot of the error message.

Sheldon acknowledged the transmission issue?

 

In one of the videos, he mentioned some problems with debris in some of the early transmissions. He said that was addressed immediately by the trans manufacturer. I don't think that is the current issue as he said it was a "few early transmissions".
