Did a search and could not find much on doing a basic oem front brake job so if there's a thread out there I'm missing please let me know.

Thoroughly impressed with my oem brakes on a stock Tacoma after 4 years with no issues. The calipers came rusted (a Vermont purchase) and I've always wanted to replace them.

Here's what I come up with for parts on a full front brake job.

    Calipers

    $400

    Rotors

    x2 $140

    Pads

    $75

    Total $615

Other than brake cleaner, brake fluid, a bleeder kit, and M8 x 1.25 bolts to remove rotors that pretty much should be everything right? Maybe cheaper to get the parts from a local dealer to avoid shipping?

Anyone have advice on painting calipers - like I said my stock calipers are super rusty and I think it would be worth painting the new ones.

Any videos / advice / instructions on basic Tacoma oem brake job appreciated. It's always good to load up on info before jumping into these things.

Depending on where you are, there are some dealers with good pricing and don't charge tax on shipped orders. You juuuust missed 15% off and free shipping though! Lewis Toyota Topeka was one, and Serra Toyota Decatur was another. If you have time to wait, I am sure there will be other promos as we get in to holiday season.

To bet installed: bling grill, headlights, fog lights.
You probably want hi temperature paint if you decide to paint them. That is if high temp paint actually works now.

IMG_9810.jpg I got my calipers from Toyota Parts Deal. They were $200ish each but I wanted factory Toyota. No regrets, pretty easy replacement job.

I am in the same boat here in southern WI. Was planning to do pads/rotors myself and ordered all parts minus calipers. Then time got tight and I asked my mechanic about doing it. He said get the calipers too; they are usually totally corroded and frozen. I am going to order them up soon and then decide whether to do it myself or not.

I use the VHT or duplicolor caliper paint and it holds up pretty well to the new england winters. I never bother to get OEM brake stuff though, powerstop coated rotors and ceramic pads have always seemed just as good for a fraction of the cost. Calipers I get autozone ones since theres so many around if I ever need to warranty them, but I've had a pretty good track record with them. OEMs are so expensive and with salt they dont seem to last any longer than aftermarkets.

I rebuilt mine on a bench for $20-40 because they’re shit and not worth anything.

same goes for the rotors. So I put Stoptech cryo slotted to slightly compensate for the factory undersize.

rebuildable calipers can be found for $60 at a junkyard.

if a person puts actual money into their front brakes it’s because they’re upgrading to 4runner BBK.
