    Hello,

I've been reading through TacomaWorld threads of people having similar issues but not the exact same as mine. So, apologies if there is a thread that solves this issue already.

    Background Info:
I have a 2011 Tacoma (access cab, long bed, V6, 6 spd) with ~150K miles. My throwout bearing has been making the infamous rhythmic squeaking noise for the past 50K or so miles, I have a big road trip coming up so I figured it was time to replace the TOB instead of risk being stranded in the middle of nowhere. I don't have the ability to do the work myself, so I contacted a local transmission shop to do the work. I purchased a URD TOB sleeve kit, along with an Aisin clutch kit, NAPA flywheel, and a rear main seal (I figure if the transmission is coming out, may as well do it all). I brought the truck and all of the parts to the shop, and they did the job.

    The Issue:
Last week the shop finished the job, I started the truck up, and immediately noticed a vibration at idle that was not there before. It's not a ridiculous vibration, but it is constant at idle. It is the same intensity whether I depress the clutch or not- but the vibration goes away if I increase the RPMs past 2,000. Another weird thing- the vibration is non-existent at road speeds (low speed, or high speed). It's worth noting that I can feel the vibration in my seat, the steering wheel, and in the shift lever. I talked to the shop about it right away, they mentioned it could be the truck idling funny after an extended period of time disconnected from the battery. I used the truck for the weekend, and it idles fine, but the vibration is still here, so I know this isn't a factor.

The truck was smooth as silk at idle before this job was done, it's not throwing any codes, the vibration goes away at road speed or anything above 2000 RPM. I'm thinking something is out of balance or installed wrong. The truck is back in the shop currently, but I can't imagine they're too motivated to rip the transmission back out. Anyone have anything on this, what's going on here?

    Thanks

My first thought is the aluminum heat shields.

Would you be able to expand on that, which are you referring to? Would that be enough to rattle the entire truck?

    Thanks

Not enough to rattle the whole truck but is the kind of thing that vibrates at idle and stops at higher speeds - for me it happens when I go in reverse - it's something you hear but don't really feel tho. Easy check is when the truck is idling and you hear the vibration pop your head under the truck and touch the various aluminum heat shields if the rattling stops that's the issue. Sounds like you're thing may be more serious though if you feel the vibrations.

update: I reread your post, sorry I did not pick up that you felt it through the steering wheel and such. Still it would be a good idea to get under the truck and try to figure out where the rattling is coming from exactly.

    Thank you for the clarification.

Yes, it certainly is a vibration, but I do think it is something more serious than a shield because it does shake the whole truck.

I may also have a loose shield but I think that's a completely separate issue.

    Thanks
