    Replace the whole wire to the source?
    Install a box before the “failure” and run new wire to the fridge?
    Peel back the bad area and wrap the exposed wire?
    Cut and wire nut it?

    Moved the box the damaged wire fed one stud over to shorten the damaged wire...ran new wire from that box to the fridge outlet because it's only 2.5 feet away and easily accessible with the wall open again. Replace the section of backer board. Could have been MUCH worse.

    And...as you know today is our 42nd anniversary. We opened our cards to each other and...
