It's less Tacoma and more mod
I might consider a lawyer if they don't immediately relent. Sometimes a well written letter using some choice legal wording will get you options you didn't have before without proceeding directly to a lawsuit.

At a quick glance buying a car “as is” in Colorado you may be right
I might be wrong, and the dealer may still take it back anyways

To bet installed: bling grill, headlights, fog lights.
I hope that dealer does something for you.

If you end up having to deal with this frame yourself, there are some repair parts that would really reduce the labor. Labor is your worst enemy on this.

Do you know a good welder? If so, show him these parts:

I think you are looking at more like $10k to have the frame replaced. This is why the previous owner didn't do it already.

You're on the right track with the advice you're getting. They knew they were selling you a death trap weather you knew it or not at the time. When you go back in be firm on what you want. I'd just say I want my money back and in return my next stop won't be the local news station to report a shyster car dealer, followed by the BBB and whatever other avenues you can dream up. Ultimately, they just want you to be weak and eat it under the guise of buyer beware. They sold you something that will kill you or someone else fairly easily. Shock factor of the pictures is on your side with this one.

IMO. Consult a lawyer and look up used car laws in CO. Even in an AS IS sale. The buyer is saying he’s selling an operational and road worthy vehicle. You should have some ground to stand on. Also at least they’re willing to look at it with and seems that they may be willing to work with you. Make the offer for you to return the truck and ask for money back minus 1k. If they bite taken it and run, lesson learned have all used vehicle inspected prior to purchase by your own mechanic.

Update: the dealer took it back without a fight. The sales guy said he had no idea and they let me take it to their shop where the mechanic used to be a Toyota tech. He said that he fired the tech that inspected the vehicle a few weeks ago and has been dealing with a lot of cars sold that he missed stuff on.

    PHEW!
