I would say to the OP at this point try and find a good used engine somewhere . And before dropping in check that , the bypass hose and timing cover for leaks. The amount of trucks that are around I’m sure you can easily find one . You seem like you are mechanically inclined . Why not try and put the new motor in yourself ?As far as the supercharger going back that’s up to you ,but maybe after all this stuff consider doing the job and leave the truck stock, with a tune for stock application. All this kind of stuff is fun but it almost always costs you tons of money in the end.

I'm going to make my internet guess on what happened. Supercharger was installed by someone not familiar with the product. Did not do the proper injector/fuel pump upgrades. Did not do the proper tuning. Undoubtedly was running lean as obvious from all the symptoms. New rings would be a waste of money. New motor or total rebuild is the only way to go unless you want to band aid the situation.

Still alot of questions about HOW this happened but a few thing i dont see mentioned is:
    - Procharger stock tune had a rev limiter of 5500. Why was it set so low? can the procharger not bleed off enough boost past that RPM leading to a forced overboost condition?
    - Yotawerx tune was a Beta tune and removed the rev limiter. What did the data logging show? Was it done in a controlled environment like a dyno or on the street? AFR @ WOT?

It sounds like the tune might be the culprit to me vs the install.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
#6 was the weakest cylinder, that's all there is to it. There are always variances: machining, metallurgy, etc. When all's said and done, there are weak spots, yours was #6. That hose was causing variable lean conditions that eventually brought out the weakness.

I installed the procharger. With my background and their instructions on installation any monkey with a wrench can do this install. They are extremely easy to install. Fuel pump has a voltage booster that is applied from procharger so no issue there. Factory injectors are retained.

As a side note I swapped my jeep from a 4cyl to a V8 manual. I did everything by myself along with doing my own wiring harness and splicing it to work with the jeep computer to keep factory gauges. When I was only 20. I still have that beast running to this day (I'm 31 now). This pro charger install was cake.

I would agree. I think the tune is the culprit and that's not yotawerx fault. That's probably my inability to read the ECU data. The truck ran amazing with the tune and there were other testers out there too running it so I didn't think twice about it. I do however wish that when the "dyno" tune was created they reached out to all the testers to update maybe it could have fixed some tune issues. I hate the situation I'm stuck in but I have to just locate an engine and have the ECU properly tuned on a dyno. The hard part is finding someone local that will do it.

Anyone have a good thread on an engine swap? I don't think I want to pay the 5k labor at this point. Just more salt into my wounds.

Sounds like an imperfect storm to me. I’d probably just go ahead and do an LS swap.

I'd love to, but not a ton of info out there on it for these trucks. When I LS swapped my jeep there was so much info out there I was basically hand held through the whole process by YouTube and forums. Worked great. But for the Tacoma I'd be nervous about it. Maybe paying a shop that has done it before would be a good route. Especially if the price comes out to the same as paying Toyota to swap this one.

I hear ya. Maybe if not an LS, maybe a 4.7 or 5.7 swap could do you a bit easier. I figured if the prices are similar, might as well go ahead and go with the V8 rather than the 3.5, but different stroke for different folks

As much as I don’t like the 3.5L, I’d go back with another one. A swap is just asking for a giant headache and a project that probably would take a while to get back on the road and probably go way over expected budget.

There are no simple swap options for this truck.

True, I think I'll retain the procharger but actually head to get it properly tuned in person. Hopefully avoid ruining a piston on a swapped engine. Mine only has 70k miles. Really bummed I can't just change the piston effectively.

So driving the gf's car home today the AC went out. I lay in bed after getting home thinking why is everything falling apart on me, contemplating how much crypto to sell to get my truck engine swapped and then it hits me. Last night I had that broken tube from the valve cover and I never got the chance to drive it due to the presidential debate. I jumped out of bed throw on the slippers and hop in. I figure at this point the engines :censored:so I'm going to give it hell. She runs flawlessly. I smack 6lb of boost multiple times with no lack of power whatsoever. Now I'm just monitoring the cyl 6 air fuel imbalance permanent code. Not sure how long it takes for that to fall off but if it does I'm going to cry.

Assuming under boost it was just sucking through that tube bypassing the MAF not to mention it probably also acts like a venturi sucking even more air maybe it was just flooding the cylinders with air. I had no codes for air fuel issues just the permanent one. Praying that drops off sometime tomorrow. I always have a temporary code after driving to work so we will see in the morning.

Unable to clear it. It's something to do with it being a "permanent" code?

If I were you, I would not drive a tune without seeing engine parameters in real-time, especially with FI
