2018, bought used with 177,000 km on it. There is no service accessory manual.

I went into the dealer and asked about maintenance intervals for all the driveline fluids, they did a printout plan for me, and there are a couple of things that make me go huh...?

One item is "check intercooler fluid". This was my first clue that the engine might be turboed, I had no idea. (That explains why it takes off at 4,000 RPM...)
    What is this?
    How does it work?
    Maintenance?

Also "manufacturer recommendation, replace vaccuum pump." Again, no idea what this is, what it does, maintenance.

    16,000 km oil change interval?
That seems like a lot, especially with a turboed engine. I see the oil volume is 6.1 litres, so I would expect more like 10,000 km. Full synthetic noted, that makes complete sense to me.

Lol. There is not a turbo. They have you a printout for some generic catch-all maintenance plan and that part is simply not applicable for you.

Okay BLtheP, that makes sense, thank you. Any thoughts on the oil change interval?

That’s a topic that will stir a lot of opinions up. The manual says 10K miles (16K km) for normal use. 5K (8k) for severe. I personally just do 5k miles on mine. It’s what I’m used to and the doubled cost doesn’t bother me for what I feel is a better choice.

I agree, oil changes are cheap due diligence in the long run. Especially in harsh environments, turboed or diesel engines.

My last three vehicles had 255,000, 305,000 and 325,000 km on them when I sold them, zero engine issues, no oil consumption.

Nothing that costs money is cheap if it's unnecessary.

I've seen engines go 40K with no oil changes and when they came in making noise they were flushed and went on to live a full life. I even bought one like I just described and sold it two years later with 24K more miles and it was running fine.

So what you are paying for is peace of mind with extra oil changes... and that might be worth it to you and that's fine.

How much do you drive per year? I drive about 7K miles per year so I change my oil every year.

You're right, I AM willing to pony up for preventative maintenance that others might well find unnecessary.

I do a lot of solo, remote adventure motorcycling and I do things like swap out a chain and sprockets that still have 25% life in them, before leaving for a trip. I Do Not want a chain to break in a mountain pass three hours before sunset....

When I'm just banging around within 500 clicks of home, I'll wear them right out.

TA2016, I do a lot more mileage than that, so I go by mileage interval, not time interval for oil changes and transmission.

For coolant and brake fluid, I go by time, biannual changes.
