im working on my wife's boyfriends Toyota Tacoma 2019. its at like 64k I want to change it.
what is the general consensus on diff fluid to use?
its a sr5 with the 6 speed limited slip version.

what are my options from mid to best to use and is there a Huge difference between the fluids. is there a war going on about the diff fluids or is it pretty set in stone with that severe slip stuff?

also are these the Tacomas with transmission issues? was it gen 3 with trans issues or early gen 3s? did the fix it in the 2019 models if they did have issues or a gen 3 issue all together.
if that's an issue is there any preventive maintenance I can do?

The Tacoma doesn't come with a traditional LSD.
It's an E-LSD diff, or A-LSD, if you will..

Wait a minute - your wife has a boyfriend? And you’re working on his truck?

Call me old fashioned, but he can work on his own truck!

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

The specification is for a GL-5 rated 75W-85 gear oil, most folks use 75W-90.

Section 9 in your owners manual, starting around page 567, gives all the lubricant specifications plus lots of other data.

Any reputable brand meeting specifications will serve fine, a limited slip additive is not needed as these trucks use an "electronic" LS which uses the anti-lock brake system.

At least he's not asking how much brake fluid one can lose before brakes fail. You know, asking for a friend. "Wife's boyfriend" with a straight face is a new one on TW. Good on you for working on his Taco.

Any 75w90 will work. Lots of people use Valvoline, RedLine, Lucas, Amsoil...
