    Afternoon all:

    Glutton for punishment!
Decided it's time to sight in my two crossbows, new limbs on one, different scope on the other. One @ 260# draw weight is a chore, doing two at that draw weight is a workout, needed a break then back at it, almost time to start using a crank to cock them, makes it much easier.
The only upside is that I can still cock them with the rope cocker and only need to do it once in the morning, not multiple times like while sighting in, maybe twice if I miss!

A few posts back, a post about hearing aids reminded me I also had an issue that I fixed.
Working outside in the yard on a hot day, one hearing aid quit working. I inspected them and cleaned them, finding the smallest dot of sweat under one battery. Bingo! Now, when I change a battery, I always wipe the battery holders out with a Q-Tip. I take the battery out, use a dryer overnight, but that alone won't fix this issue. Sweat is corrosive. Luckily the hearing aid is mostly plastic... but eventually, sweat can/will damage the expensive hearing device.

All I've been hearing since i got out of the Military 40 years ago is very loud ringing in my ears . Being stationed aboard a Marine Corps Air base and hearing 24/7/365 flight ops . Also live firing M2 .50 cal machine guns without hearing protection didn't help much either

    Morning all:

I've also had ringing in my ears for probably 55yrs., started after two of us were shooting .357 Mags. without ear protection.
Only time I really notice it when it's dead quiet, like when I go to bed, the noise from two fans that I turn on every night help hide it, don't think it affects my hearing too much though, if anything it's minimal.

    Ditto...

Wife and I went in to get a hearing test and she had typical hearing loss for age. My left ear was similar to hers but the right had a marked difference and much more loss. The guy described some things that it could mean (Tumor was mentioned) and why it might be different, including that there are particulates in the ear canal that can float around and land on the hairs that we require to vibrate in order to hear. So I'm listening to this guy and of course he's geared to medical intervention and mentioning surgery to correct the problem... and I'm sitting there thinking about particles floating around and landing and what might alleviate the problem without medical hysteria... and this right ear thing has been bugging me for years. And I've found that applying pressure around my ears from different directions can often provide some relief, much like I imagine a closed duct being opened up although it's usually temporary. So after we left I reached up and stuck my little finger in my right ear and instead of applying pressure I shook it vigorously... and the ear had a feeling like there was a release of pressure and the fogginess was almost entirely GONE.

Sometimes the cotton-ball-inside-the-ear feeling creeps back slowly and sometimes right away, but shaking the inside of my ear will provide a relief and I can hear much better. So I'm on the fence about hearing aids... but definitely at this point leaning toward doing without.

I probably could improve my hearing with hearing aids and definitely need new glasses, but I’m not deaf (like my better half) nor blind…yet, so I’ll push on with my maladies.
Primary chores today: pay taxes (UGH…I hate the end of every quarter, but luckily I save up every quarter for this!); repair granddaughter’s belt; start trimming iris; reload 7mm-08 in prep for next range day; work on Casita; and what ever grandma tasks me with…LOL! Except for taxes, a relaxing day.

Everyone enjoy the day! My best goes to all in the path of Francine.

I have hearing loss in only my left ear. Went to an ENT a couple years ago and he said to me you are right handed and are a shooter aren’t you. I asked how he knew and he said when I aim a rifle or shotgun and shoot my cheek is on the stock and my left ear is toward the shot, the bang. Lots of shooters who don’t use proper hearing protection (me in my youth) have this problem.
I got tired of saying What all the time when someone spoke to me so I got a hearing aid for my left ear. Now no more what, what did you say.
I got it at Costco. They have great technicians there, quality brand name hearing aids and really great prices. I got a rechargeable one didn’t want to mess with batteries. Works great. Costco will clean your hearing aid any time you want for free. I just drop it off when shopping there and it’s ready 10 minutes later. Another thing I like about it is they installed an app on my phone so I can adjust it whenever I want. I can turn the volume up or down. It also has different settings for different situations such as general everyday, speech in a noisy room, riding in an automobile etc. It’s small and discreet, you don’t notice that I’m wearing a hearing aid. I seldom have to say WHAT?

No offense but I think you know not what you are talking about. I assume you are not a Costco member. It’s a Great place, I save my membership fee on our first shopping trip there every year on the savings we get on what we buy. The hearing aid specialists are trained, certified, and licensed just like any other hearing aid store. They do an outstanding job cleaning the hearing aid, better than I can do.
Been a Costco member for over 20+ years. Have saved tens of thousands of dollars on all the various groceries and merchandise we’ve purchased there. Never ever a single complaint or problem. Great service, great merchandise, low prices, return policy outstanding.
And prescription medication, the lowest prices anywhere. They have 130+ million members, they do it right.
If I had a complaint it would be that they are so popular it’s often crowded.
I understand Costco isn’t for everyone, each to their own. Almost everyone of my friends are Costco members, I’ve never heard a single complaint. Sorry I ran on a bit long.
