I have owned new Tacomas every 5 years since 1982. Two days ago I had something brand new happen to my 2019 TRD 4WD Off road.

While driving all day through southern Arizona, temperature 110 F minimum, I stopped at a truckstop for a rest and something cold to drink. After 10m I went to re-enter the Interstate and the truck was not respond to throttle at all. I could not even get to 50 mph. After less than 1/2 mile the engine quit.

After sitting in the dirt area off the shoulder for 2h waiting for AAA to show up with a tow, an Arizona public safety truck arrived and the driver asked me what the trouble was. I explained it acted like I was out of gas, but it still had more than half a tank. He said 'have you reset the microprocessors ?' I said no, I had no idea about this. He pulled the (+) terminal off the battery for about 2 minutes, then reinstalled it. The engine cranked fine and ran fine the rest of my journey, just like it normally would.

This was all new to me, I never knew this was even a possibility. Anyone else had this happen ?

More likely a fuel pump than an ECU reset, its concerning for sure.

Maybe bring a wrench next time and see if the battery reset is the answer.

To me it sounds like it sitting cooling off was the solution.

2019 Taco's had fuel pump issues where the engine would stall. Have you had yours recalled? If not, call Toyota and check to see if you are in the VIN area where the fuel pump could be faulty.

Yeah, I’m gonna side with bishop on the cool down is what healed things. Problem is likely to come back soon. I would have guessed crank sensor but fuel pump is a possibility too. Unhooking the battery likely did nothing, just a lucky coincidence really is my guess.

Also have 2019trd off road .I was less than a mile from completing my 50 mile commute when truck just died after a few minutes it started and I limped it home. let it cool down and started right up and had no more issues. after researching discovered that there was a fuel pump recall that caused engine to stall suddenly had new pump installed no problem since

Thank you to everyone who responded. Yes my truck was included in the defective fuel pump recall. I cannot remember receiving a notice from Toyota or I would have acted already. The Toyota website has a link which allowed me to search for any recalls pending on my Tacoma.

Today my local dealer completed the recall R/R action. The truck is running fine so far, and if it continues I will assume that fixed the problem I had one week ago.
