Steering Rack Leak

Had my truck in at the shop for regular service and they said the steering rack was leaking quite a bit and said the repair would cost about a grand. I am only at 60k miles. Was curious if anyone else has had this or done the repair themselves?

Not sure how much it's leaking but I have a 1995 Integra that had a small leak in the steering rack.
I flushed the system then put in new PS fluid and a few ounces of

$21 AT205 ATP Automotive AT-205 Re-Seal Stops Leaks, 8 Ounce Bottle

AT205. It's a polymer sealant that works well for me. It took a couple of days to seal but my garage floor is now dry.

It's worth a try...can potentially save a lot of work.

Both my boots are full and I've had to top of my PS reservoir all of 1 time in 58K miles. It does not leak, for now. As it is, I'm gonna see where this goes. This is a fairly common issue for all Tacos, not just 3rd gens.

 

Spring clamps just holding on for dear life lol.

My rack broke at 28k miles, never leaked, but also no power steering for a year until I could get the funds together. It was 750 bucks for the rack at Camelback and 400 for the install.
Another member, he got his rack from mcgeorge Toyota for 350 a few months later.

 

It seems wrong of me to not let them live their best life.

Also having some issues with mine. 110k miles. Was just quoted $1600 to replace it. Seems steep.

 

Think I have the same issue. Taking into dealer today at 104K miles. I have a 125K/10yr Platinum plan, seems like should almost request to have it changed, no?

 

I'm glad you mentioned this - as I wait in the dealership now, if they come back and say yes to replacement, my next question/request was for part information for the replacement. As long as I have a paper trail I can refer back if it fails at 125,001 miles (outside my warranty).

 

Quoting myself for an update.

No new news. Rack still looks like it always has with wet boots. No fluid dripping and have added PS fluid only twice in 7 years and 90k miles.

Probably the most rust free part on my truck at this point.

It is on my list of things to do, but...
