ATX area (Austin, TX) Tuning

Hey Y’all, my name is Chris and I am proud to offer my tuning services to the ATX (Austin, TX) area. My friend Brody operates @DownhillDragon , and he moved to Arizona, so I took over his tuning here in Austin. Some of you may know me as Chris from Triple C Chop Shop. I also support all of Brody’s customers as well as offering lifetime support to my own customers. Any questions you may have about tuning, or the tuning process, I’ll be more than happy to answer.

What are the benefits for a 6MT? Also, are there list of “options” they can be modified? Like voltage, seat belt chime, etc.

 

I have a genuine version of Techstream and can disable seatbelt chime amongst the many other options that it has available. For 3rd gen Tacoma, yes, I can adjust alternator output to give you up to 14.5vdc battery charging for AGM battery. For the manual trans, the tune eliminates the gear lag that everyone dislikes about the 6MT. On top of that the motor gets more Hp/Tq, more fuel efficient, and better throttle response. If you have engine performance mods, I can also make adjustments for those as well. Let me know if this answered your question.

Hey Chris! How does the Downhill Dragon Tune compare to the Overland Tailor Tune (OTT) that is so often recommended on these forums, reddit, etc.? Is there any significant difference between what you're offering and this existing option? I hear of people switching from KDMAX to OTT; so surely not all tunes are created equal. Thanks for any insight!

 

I’ve driven trucks with KD, OTT and YW tunes. They’re all great in their own different way. As for actual Hp/Tq gains, everyone is close, and it also depends on the health and performance mods on the motor what kind of gains you’ll see. What separates me from others is that I not only flash the tune to your vehicle, but I’m also along for the test drive collecting data to see if there’s any room for improvement. I also offer lifetime support for as long as you own the vehicle. So if you do a gear change, tire size change, get an AGM battery, or need any other adjustment, I do that free of charge no matter the circumstance. I’m also the least expensive. My cost to tune hasn’t gone up, and it won’t, so pricing stays low. I know Toyota trucks and SUVs very well, and I bring my knowledge of not only tuning, but everything else about these vehicles. If you’ve got any questions at all bout tuning, the tuning process, or anything else about these vehicles, I can help you out to the best of my ability.

FYI, Toyota dropped an update to all 3rd Gen Tacoma 3.5L ECU’s on August 29th, 2024. All Cal Id’s will be updated and the only real change is the DTC that will be present if you use a block heater and cold start, if that makes sense. Nothing else changes besides the Cal ID for the ECU. If you’ve gotten a tune from Brody of Downhill Dragon Tuning or a tune from me, I will update you to the latest version free of charge as a part of my lifetime support for tuning. This is also an oppurtunity to update any changes made to your truck since then including tire size, gear changes, AGM battery, or additional engine performance mods. Again, Downhill Dragon and Triple C previous customers get free lifetime support and I will gladly update your ECU and tune to the latest version. It’ll take me about a week to input all the data into the new files. Takes about 2 to 2.5hrs per Cal ID on 3rd Gen Tacoma’s for me to input every map. Matt from VF Tuner said they’ll have support for all of the new Cal ID’s by the end of this week. Hit me up if you’d like to get updated.

 

New Cal ID’s for 3rd Gen Tacoma are now available, as of Tuesday September 10th, 2024. I’ve transferred the data from 04b04 to 04b06 and the maps are basically unchanged for the stock files. Will be flashing an 04b06 on Saturday. Took me about 2hrs to transfer all the data. I’ll be working on the rest of the files with the next one being 04c21 to 04c22. As folks book appointments with me, their Cal ID will take priority. Please contact me directly if you’d like to retune your 3rd Gen Taco to reflect the new Cal ID. Again all previous Downhill Dragon Tuning customers and Triple C Chop Shop customers have lifetime support.
