i know it is still a while out. but i just got word i am tasked with the pre holiday dinners and the sides...on Thanksgiving. my mom's kitchen is woefully under-geared. dull knives, no sheet trays, etc.

Last year we had a Thanks-Mas between the holidays. It was about the only way to get all the kids and grandkids together on one day.
We had it catered, which was more expensive of course. But it sure was nice not having to worry about cooking and cleaning the kitchen.

Did Christmas at my FIL home couple years ago. Good thing I checked the oven before I turned it on to pre-heat. He keeps his bread (in the plastic bag) in it.

My SIL did Thanksgiving at her house and put the turkey carcass into the ( by then cold ) oven to get it out of the way after dinner. Much wine drinking commenced. She forgot the turkey...for days. She couldn't understand why her kitchen stunk like a dead body and throughly cleaned everything and finally found the turkey.

I will most likely be doing a smoked turkey, hopefully I have a new smoker by then. Most likely will only be wife, daughter and myself (we just moved to another state for work) so may do a breast or two instead of a whole bird. We usually have ham also but will have to figure that out as the place we normally buy from isn't here.
