Today I picked up a Tri-fold, Hard-top Tonneau cover from a buddy who had a 2018 Tacoma TRD Sport

When we were removing it to swap it over to my 2021 Tacoma Sport, I noticed the bolts that hold the pins in on the side of the bed would not thread into my bed.

After further investigation (and a trip to Lowes) I noticed the bolts that came off his 2018 were 6mm bolts (I figured that out when they easily threaded into the M6-1.00 nuts)

I tried chasing the threads with a 6MM Tap and Die set. Much to my amazement, only the 5MM Tap would thread into the threads to clean them leading me to believe I now need 5MM bolts

Did Toyota change the bolts between 2018 and 2021? If so, has anyone run into the same problem?

The picture is for reference of what I'm talking about part-wise.
