Anyone ever "un-build" their Tacoma build?

I have a camper shell, roof rack, heavy ass steel rock sliders and skid plates, and I do go off road very frequently because I live right by the mountains. But sometimes I look at lightweight builds with just a lift and tires and I want to go back to that because driving my truck feels like I'm dragging around a massive amount of weight at all times. Does anyone else ever relate to this feeling? Anyone ever un-built your build and go back to basics and did you regret it?

I would bet it happens all the time but how many would admit to doing it lol.

After all, in 2024, you don't just own a vehicle.. you are somehow mandated to modify the vehicle out the wazoo because nothing the OEM did was adequate enough for your lifestyle.

I just bought my truck in April and its bone stock. Last week I drove from the mountains 60 miles to the city and picked up about 350 lbs. of landscaping materials. Wow, I could definitely feel it driving back uphill to get back home.

if it can be reverted to stock, it's not a build.

I do wonder what aluminum is like. Buddy has a rig and doesn't wheel hard. I tell him IF he's going to mod, consider minimal and lightweight, that not much may be needed.
That maybe consider aluminum sacrificial skids, instead of thick steel handling repeated use.

I wonder what that would be like. However, there's not a lot out there on the market in terms of things like aluminum bumpers, let alone good looking.
Pelfreybilt for example no longer exists. Aluminess I think doesn't make Tacoma stuff anymore. And whatever they did in the rear I don't think was even a high clearance which is the point of a bumper.

I own my Tacoma because of this scenario. I built up my previous truck and eventually built it back down to more stock for a variety of reasons. But since some of it couldn't be reversed easily I had to move on to a new truck. I maybe have gone a little further than I should but certainly a lot more focused and reasonable about modifications on the Tacoma.

Get rid of the camper, get better shocks and springs.

Yep. I didn't have anything crazy, but...
I had JBA A-Arms, OME 3" nitrocharger, Hybrid steel bumper, Dakar in rear and I had just bought sliders when I decided it was all unneccary for my use on my DD. Now I'm stock height with 5100s. Kept the 33's and camper shell, added RAS to help stock leafs

I used to mod EVERYTHING I bought. Now, eh, other then a winch occasionally, I don't foresee myself driving up the sheer cliffs of Mount Everest with 9 lockers, enough lights to morse code the space station, 6 spares, 4 winches, an Abrams hull underneath as armor and a roll cage capable of protecting a pilot at mach 3.

If you use it, cool, if it's just $20 K worth of mall glitter, well, it's YOUR $20K and you are welcome to do so. Just don't think you'll get your $20K back when you sell it because disappointment will hit you like the fist of an angry God.
