Yes, I am one of those train guys. And proud of it.
Printing a tender for a G scale locomotive that I kit-bashed into another model.

The top should be done sometime today.

and a caboose for the weekend.
I may redo the shell and try to get more of a board like, wood grain kind of surface.
By next week I might have a short consist of home made cars to pull around.

I like this brown. Gonna print the caboose shell with this.

It has a nice wood grain look to it.

I could have made the boards a bit wider. I'm gonna roll with it. :D
Still needs a little cleaning up.

7 hours into a 9 hour print and kept hearing something catch, but couldn't pinpoint it until the support ripped off the plate. A moment of panic, then clarity. Grabbed the glue stick, pasted the shit out of it and held it in place as close as possible while matching the movement of the bed. It eventually stuck and was able to finish. The last two 9 hour prints I did overnight and woke up to no problems. I was glad I was awake when this happened.

I like this one quite a bit. Just released by user jamisonusmc on Maker World - it's called "Toyota Retro Sign LED Light Box Shelf Display". I happened to have all the colors to print it today. Instead of white for the background I used glow in the dark for funsies and I swapped around the red and yellow to match the actual livery color order.

Printed a upper console switch panel yesterday. I didn't like how it looked so I tried Creality fuzzy skin. It's better, it gives it a more OEM texture but I still don't like it, but I'll use it for now.

I really don't like how this Overture PETG prints. I've tried many different settings but it always strings like crazy and globs in spots. It also ends up shiny even though the filament is supposed to be a non-glossy black. After seeing ITmaD prints I think I'm going to give PET-CF a try.

Bambu Lab X1C with AMS. Makes it easy and lazy for me to do multi-color prints.

Cool, My P1S should be showing up any minute today. My Ender 5 Pro is getting long in tooth and this looks like a nice upgrade. Part of me wished I'd gotten the X1C but the budget is already being stretched as it is.
I sure do like the idea of printing in multi colors, no I have to learn how to do that in the cad software!
Are you running multiple AMS units to be able to get the 5 colors?

I think you'll love the P1S. If I get another I will probably just get a P1S. I actually had to untrain myself from diving too deep with my X1C because of my prior experience with less-easy printers. These really just need the basics to work amazing. I just have one AMS, so 4 filament capable. On this one I just did two prints, one with 4 colors and one with the black parts. And applying different colors is pretty easy in the slicer once you do it a few times. You can 'paint' using face selection, or better yet, just apply a different color to an object itself.

Thanks, It's calibrating now! I can't wait to get printing! Now I need to order red and yellow, it came with orange and I should have some black laying around somewhere.
What do you use for drying filiment? I've never worried about that in the past and it always worked well, but I never ventured beyond PLA

I use mostly Overture ABS filament and it comes vac sealed so I use it out of the package. I keep the AMS pretty dry with the addition of multiple bead desiccant holders (def one of the first mods you should do to your AMS) and changing out the desiccant frequently. If I have to store an open spool I use storage containers from Home Depot that have a gasket lid and I keep desiccant in there too. The only filament that I have used that I actively dry is TPU. I got one of the ~$50 single spool driers off of Amazon that has heaters AND a circulation fan.

So I'm a bit confused now, the quick start says to remove the dessicant on the AMS before using, when are you supposed to have it in there? Do you have to take it out before printing every time?

Throw out the desiccant Bambu provides. Once saturated it turns to a goo and leaks down into the AMS. Go print this or one of the similar ones (it is a set of trays and baskets that hold bead desiccant in the AMS): https://makerworld.com/en/models/56953. Buy some bead desiccant from Amazon to fill those up: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7OE6WK/. Grab some of these too to monitor your AMS and spool storage containers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098JFRNKM/. Once the moisture increases in the AMS I swap out the beads and then dry the saturated beads in the oven or microwave for reuse (follow directions on bead desiccant container).

This stringing is almost structural.
Previous prints I had the pullback speed set to 10mm at 100mms and set the print speed at 70mms and had pretty good results, minimal stuff and it was thin.
This print I slowed the print speed down to 50mms and left the rest. This is the result.
