I want to put an optic on my S&W MP2.0 full-size, but don’t know where to start. I’m old and never had a pistol with optics.
It’s my occasional carry, home defense and range gun. It is optics ready.

    Any recommendations?

The Crimson Trace on my XDs has been good.
For the money, it's hard to beat a Vortex. I have a buddy that shoots 3-Gun and he's hard on his.
His Vortex has been holding up really well for the abuse it gets.

I do not shoot with optics, but I did learn ("read on the internet" is close enough?) that you need to learn how to "sight" with optics. Focus on the where the "dot" (or "target ring") indicates ... instead of lining up where the iron sights indicate. Since you probably want to hit only what you want to hit ... not exactly a "secondary thought" and not the easiest of changes in behavior.

If I am incorrect, I hope others will correct this so the OP has the best advice.

I have the Vortex Defender CCW on my G43x and couldn't complain for the price $236 after tax. Plus Vortex have a kick ass warranty.

Have used Trijicon and Aimpoint on my duty pistols with no complaints. The Aimpoint ACRO is goofy looking but I love the ability to swap batteries without worrying about zero. With that said I've not had any significant zero shifts in my RMR's after removing them to swap batteries.

    EDITED to add:

You'll also want to consider suppressor height sights and a new holster as many won't work with a slide mounted optic.

Yes there is a learning curve with the new sighting system.

Your presentation could alter slightly and sometimes if you track from one target to another you can "lose the dot." This all goes away with training and you'll quickly get confident in the ability to make faster follow-up shots along with self corrections (since the dot will show what you're doing right or wrong).

Thanks again everyone. I haven’t decided yet but now I’m going to shop around a bit.

I’m used to using a red dot on my AR and Aimpoints on M-4’s, etc., I’ve just never had anything on a pistol before.
