Hi guys, after struggling with my gas chain saw for years, I think i might pull the trigger on a cordless chainsaw.

Is there any package with enough power and quality for under 300$?

As always, I am trying to be frugal and something that lasts but on a budget.

I found this husqvarna set for 299$ plus tax. At another store, it includes the battery and charger

Do you already own cordless power tools with larger batteries? Is the 14 inch bar roughly the size you want?

14 or 16 would be enough.

I got ryobi, but i am not sure if they are compatible with their chainsaw.

I don't believe so. The chainsaws are 40v, and my kit I think is 20v

You'd definitely have to pull the trigger

What work are you trying to do with this chainsaw?

I’ve been delighted with my Milwaukee 2727-20 16” M18 Fuel chainsaw for 3+ years.

It’s retired my old Solo 2-stroke, which I gave away.

The Milwaukee’s narrow kerf chain cuts beautifully and the 12A-h battery lasts longer than I do or the job does. I’ve never exhausted the battery doing anything around the house.

I talked to a crew at Bryce Canyon National Park and a line crew from Wisconsin here in STL for storm repairs about the Milwaukees both groups were using. Their strong positive comments helped me make my decision.

My cousin has a battery operated Makita chainsaw with 2 18 volt batteries. I was impressed with it being I prefer gas powered chainsaws. That thing has lots of power & lasts a long time on a charge...

A cordless will never do much of what I need to do but I did recently buy a Ryobi 40 volt. I can use it for some of the light work when I don't want to get out the bigger saws. I already have a Ryobi leaf blower and wanted another battery. A battery is $150. The saw with another battery was $260. I've only used it once so far but it'll work for trimming shrubs and other light jobs.

I burn a lot of firewood and use a Stihl 20" and an Echo. I have both 18" and 14" bars and chains for the Echo and usually keep the 14" bar on it.

I had a tree crew clearing about an acre size lot for me a couple of years ago. They had some BIG saws, but when they were doing small stuff they used the Makita battery powered saws.

I only need it to cut the random tree on the trails, or cut a few logs for the fire pit while camping.

Ps: my fire pit size is 10x smaller than the one required by Gonzo.

I've been satisfied with my Sun Joe 40V, but I bought it only because I had two 40V batteries from a Snow Joe snowblower.

Both @honkonbobo and @Tridet167 have Milwaukee M18 saws. I notice they cut really fast (high chain speed).

Make sure you also have a folding saw (Silky, Corona), good for cutting branches wedged under your truck.

What’s the struggle with your gas saw? My Husqvarna 340 has been flawless for a decade. It’s gone through dozens of chains and several different bars, but those just wore out from heavy use. My 450 Rancher is only 3 years old or so, but it’s just as reliable. They both usually cough on the first pull and start on the second.

My old Stihl had become a frustrating PITA, but at 20 years old, it paid its dues.

I think the future is batteries, but they are tough to refuel in the middle of the woods and I have several other 50:1 2 strokes that need fuel too.

Being on the Milwaukee platform, I've been impressed with the Milwaukee top handle chainsaw. Keep it in my truck for hunting, camping, fishing, general outdoor adventures. Went with that model as it's much more compact than the traditional saw they offer. I run it with the HO XC 8.0 battery.

Most arborists I see up in trees are using cordless now. I've see a mix of all brands.

Had the top handle been out when I got mine, that version quite likely woulda been my first choice.

I am dewalt guy. If you’re close to Mississauga the dewalt warehouse sells refurbished tools with warranty for cheap. Or go to Home Depot show them this add online for 198 and they’ll match it and beat it by 10%. If you have dewalt batteries. It’s a tool only.

I just bought a Milwaukee M18 Hatchet after seeing a guy with one on an 8 day trip in Northern Ontario. We had to do a lot of cutting. It would have done everything on that trip that my big Stihl did.
Since I've had mine I've been cutting with it nearly everyday for the last 6 weeks. I'm very impressed. In Ontario the price is $348 without battery. In Michigan, where I bought mine, it was $249 us with a good battery.

I recently thought about getting an electric for the convenience. Already have one of those mini-electric saws for cutting small things, and then stumbled across this thread. Thanks all....

I don't know how to tune the carburetor, it stalls very easily, and the start is inconsistent.

An electric one can already work for 30,min continuously.
If you got 2 batteries, you are good, otherwise, it looks like the greenwirks 80v not charges in a few minutes instead of an hour..
