Got my (new to me) Tacoma a few weeks ago. Immediately swapped the tires it came with for some Toyo Open Country A/T IIIs, as in I took it in for the new set about an hour after picking it up. Highway tires that were mounted on it just weren’t gonna do the job. Around 3,000 of my own miles on her already. Most recently we did some wheeling and camping along the Lake Superior shoreline for a long weekend. Can’t wait to get back out on the trails here in Northern MI this fall.

A little background on my journey to get this truck:

I’ve been shopping for a TRD model Tacoma in Army Green since the great chip shortage of 2021 but given the exorbitant prices of used Tacomas at that time, we settled for a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk which we loved for its factory off-road capability and super comfortable highway ride. Other than not having a truck bed, it was a great vehicle for Michigan trails and we had a lot of great trips with it. A few years later (a few weeks ago now) we got a great trade in offer at the same time as a reasonably priced Army Green Tacoma crossed our path. No real mods aside from deleting the factory chrome bumper caps and throwing the Toyo ATIII’s on it the day we took it home and a soft tonneau cover to keep our camp gear dry. I like my vehicles to mostly look like the factory configuration and still be capable on the trails, so we will maybe switch to a zero offset 4Runner TRD wheel for a slightly wider track. So far we’re loving it!
