High pressure fuel line upgrade

    I just recently dropped my fuel tank down and installed the URD fuel pump (walbro 255 Lph Hp) with external fuel filter. this pump supports 255 liters per hour at 43.5 psi and 228 LPH at 58 psi. I believe the 2nd gen v6 4.0 tacoma spec fuel psi at around 40-41 psi with a limit of 45 psi at the fuel pressure regulator connected to the fuel rail. The kit included an upgraded (up to 100 psi) high pressure line from the fuel pump to the top of the fuel tank module, but from the top of the fuel tank it uses the stock high pressure line to connect to the external fuel filter.

    I plan on upgrading my high pressure fuel line from the URD external fuel filter to an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator (with psi gauge for adjustment) then to the fuel rail while using a fuel rail pressure regulator adapter (fits the same way as the stock fuel pressure regulator).


    Here is where i am kinda stuck... i of course plan to continue around 43 psi but tune for a higher psi around 58 on WOT, etc. In the future I may want to tune for around 58-60 psi normal driving condition since my 650cc aftermarket fuel injectors can more than handle a higher psi. I basically want to future proof my truck for if and when i ever decide to increase my high pressure fuel psi with a new tune. My problem is that I have the 2-3 feet of stock high pressure fuel line from the top of the fuel tank (push in 90 degree elbow secured with yellow C-clip), to the external URD fuel filter. Anyone have any suggestions for changing this section out? should I cut the fuel line off at the 90 degree elbow and find a way to secure a 5/16 ID fuel line? is there a specific push in size/type for the fuel tank module utilizing the yellow C-clip that I can search for? any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

    sorry for the mouthful, just wanted to make sure that I included all the info

    Can you tell us what mods you have done to the truck?
    Or what mods you plan to do in the future?

    There are guys on here pushing over 400whp.
    You may be trying to fixing an issue, that will never be a problem.

    Maybe you'll never need to worry about fuel starvation issues?
    We need more info on why you need, or will need, more fuel pressure.

    I am just trying to upgrade my high pressure fuel line. My truck was running lean for awhile which is why I upgraded the fuel pump with the added external fuel filter along with new injectors. Its not that i need to run more than 43 psi, but I want to have the option available for if I decide to install forced induction in the future, etc. Havnt started up the truck since I installed the URD fuel pump/filter, long tube headers, new o2 upstream(denso)/downstream sensors, and 650cc FIC injectors. While working on my truck I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade the high pressure fuel line as well with an adjustable aftermarket fuel pressure regulator that I will set at 43 psi (near the same stock regulator psi) with the -option- of increasing psi in the future followed by a tune. I just want suggestions on changing out the stock high pressure line from the top of the fuel tank to the factory quick disconnect (2-3 feet away), thats all im asking about.

    so, with the aftermarket fuel pressure regulator set at 43 psi when idle, the vacuum reference line from the intake manifold will raise this psi to around 58+/- psi in certain conditions like WOT. the stock fuel pressure regulator will only allow a max of 45 psi regardless of the vacuum pressure from the intake. Also, the aftermarket URD fuel pump specs a maximum of 90 psi, which will be controlled based on the ECU sending voltage/PWM changes to the fuel pump, but there is the -potential- for a much higher psi than the stock fuel pump. this being the case, I want to make sure my high pressure fuel line can handle these potentially higher psi ranges without leaking/bursting. Even if the stock high pressure line can handle these higher pressures, it will just give me peace of mind.

    while thinking about this today, i guess the solution to my main question would be the same process for changing the high pressure line inside of the fuel tank module. Just cut the fuel line wrap on the 90 degree elbow on the top of the fuel tank module and remove the stock high pressure fuel line, then slip a 5/16 ID fuel line onto the 90 degree elbow nipple with a worm clamp or similar.

    I no longer need suggestions on this and any mod who sees this thread can delete it.

    Just a bit of info—it's normal for fuel pressure to down a bit at WOT simply due to the physics of the system. What you really want to ensure is that you have a high enough flow rate at a sufficient pressure to feed the injectors at WOT for your intended application. Generally, 5/16" automotive braided Nitrile fuel line is good up to ~200 psi (so long as the fittings/clamps are in sufficiently good condition to hold it on).
