Wait… down south you still can buy a new 2.7 4x4? You all just blew my mind… do they still make it in MT?

I think it's extremely unlikely Toyota will carry over the 2.7 for the US market, but will continue to offer it in Mexico and other areas of the World. That's the way Toyota has done things for 50 years. Example: the 22RE was discontinued in '94 in US pickups, but was available in Australia until '97. The 18R engine was discontinued in the US pickups in '74, but was available in Australia until '81. I hear the '24 Tacoma will offer two engines - a standard turbo-4 cyl and optional turbo hybrid 4 cyl.

Joe, what ignition coils are you using?

That's the trend. Such as the last Subaru with a manual transmission in the U.S.A. was in 2014. It was still available in Canada a few years after.

Turbos also seem to be the trend. I wonder how they'll hold up. The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierras can be had with, coincidentally - a 2.7L 4 cylinder turbo. I've read fuel economy is somewhat, but not very much better than the standard V8 engine. Powering a truck - seems like that 2.7L wouldn't fare as well as V8.

I'm glad to have the Toyota 2.7L and manual transmission - a great drivetrain IMO.

Stock Densos. No reason to need anything different, and the Densos are the least finicky. I tried Accels and had bad luck with them, so I went back to Densos.
I do run 1 step colder Denso plugs, though.

I’d like to know how MSD would work in your application

I'd go with the RIPP coils before the MSD's, personally.

Yea have zero desire to trade for a 24, my 15 4cyl 5speed 4x4 is at 157000 miles and strong as new other than some piston slap when cold. When the time comes to upgrade will most differently get another 2.7 preferably a 2nd gen

Don’t blame you at all. At that mileage it’s still a baby.

I feel the same about my 2007, same drivetrain. About 2,000 less miles. Some maintenance items lately but I expected them, bought it last year with about 146k miles on it. With the warmer weather my fuel economy went up a bit. last average was around 22 mpg.

I have a 2008 and passes emissions in NJ and in NJ that's all they test for now - other then emissions it could be falling apart and a complete rust bucket they don't care.
