Well, let's hope the fix involves typing! Or at most flipping a dip switch or turning a screw... But still, this is high drama on the 'anything welding' thread.

    If there was ever a

    time it's now.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

It's interesting you mentioned the dip switch, that was an issue last year!

But yep, I performed incremental movements and measured them with my straight edge ensuring that a programmed movement of .25" moved exactly .25" physically.

CUT60 cuts with a tiny bit of bevel all around for the test piece IE even and acceptable

I think it's the table still and maybe the CUT60 just shows any flaws less than the Hypertherm does :bananadead:

So it'll be down for a few weeks while I try to go over disassembly and reassembly as I won't be able to put much time into it.

Everything is benched for the while; hoping to start going over the table this weekend. If not the following weekend.

    what welder?

a lot of guys say to turn down the heat(voltage), but i've found that turning up the wire speed tends to work better for me to keep similar weld penetration.

on 1/4" plate, i'd be around 18-19v, and 300-325 on wire speed..

also important, keep the tip as close to the weld as possible-- the further out the wire is from the tip, the higher the speed needs to be to compensate

Wire speed controls amperage. Amperage is your “heat”, not voltage. Think of your voltage setting as just something that controls the contour/profile of the weld….

So what you’re describing actually turns up the “heat”

Gotta run errands, then after we get back I've gotta see if I have the right bags so I can use my wet/dry shop vac to empty out the pan

Then move onto the second half of the water bed

Very informative. The preset on my machine (which I can infinitely tweak by turning the knobs) for 3/16" is 18v/280in. I've been bumping settings around and some welds are good and some are awful, likely due to my technique.

Welding always requires manual adjustment and fine tuning

There are no perfect settings that work for every individual even on the same thickness material

Torch speed, technique, etc are all contributing factors and even on the "correct" preset, one's technique can create weld defects

That’s a fairly hot setting for 3/16 material, definitely one that needs to be slightly drug with no oscillation with fairly fast travel speed.

the terminology still confuses me, when it deviates from the actual settings available on the welders...

nah, presets are a great starting point. when everything starts going wrong, i return to the presets to reset myself all the time. most times, it's something i'm doing that's screwing something up. a big thing is that it's a consistent result. it might not be perfect for my use or my rhythm, but it's ideal for troubleshooting to understand where i deviated, and how those deviations effected the weld.

in this case, i'd play with bumping up higher still to 330-350, or, if you can get the welder closer than you were running, get the tip half the distance as before, but maintain the same settings.

I'm old, my back hurts, so 3 hours of work is enough for me on any given day.

    Water bed is 98% done.

    20240921_140144.jpg

I'll head out to Home Depot tomorrow morning for shop vac stuff and I'll finish cleaning out my water bed tomorrow.

Thinking I'll have to pull it, but we'll see if there's any "wiggle" room once I start loosening the frame.

I won't have to completely disassemble anything, more like loosen things up enough to ensure it is fully square again (if it was ever out of square).

I'll be reaching out to Langmuir to see if they offer bearing blocks in small, mini-assemblies before I decide to tackle rebuilding the majority of them.

On another note, my wife did ask how much the new table is that I'm wanting. She wants to buy me one but she I told her naw, we got other priorities first and I'll just get it myself in the years to come.
