My second time driving with the tune, a path I am very familiar with, and the difference is amazing!! The biggest thing I noticed is when going up hill, shifting 1st to 2nd used to briefly bog down no matter how much I revved 1st out, but tonight it immediately picked up unlike ever before. Hills in general are much easier to climb, but that really stood out.

Just tuned my 2023 TRD OR last night, and my only regret is not doing it sooner. It really does feel like a different truck. And I’m noticing a 1-2mpg increase in fuel economy. Worth every penny.

    That’s 5.7L V8 power out of a 4-Cylinder Tacoma!

That is amazing! Maybe slightly off topic, but any chance you might try to work on a tune for other models using the 2.4 turbo motor, like say the Lexus RX350?

We intend to, yes. Our core market and focus is the offroad-centric platforms, so our development time will cater to these markets/vehicles, but we'll not ignore the opportunities available with vehicles like the RX350.

That is great! I know keeping up the business model for offroad and utility vehicles being top priority is important, but the thought that some day my wife's Lexus could see the OTT treatment definitely gives me something to look forward to. Seeing the difference in a naturally aspirated V6 and knowing how much more room turbo engines have for improvement in comparison really makes me excited to see the final outcomes from your work.

Crossing my fingers for an “affordable”, yet performing 4th gen with a tuned SR model!

We're still evaluating, but we plan to offer calibrations for the SR models to bring them up to the full 278hp/317lb-ft rating and potentially further. TBD on that! But it's on the radar for sure.

It’s making me consider picking up one with no add-ons and move my camper over and move on from the supercharged 2nd gen in order to get better mileage.
I guess I need to go by my local dealer and see if there’s an SR in stock I can check out.

@JustDSM does that mean the focus is slightly back to the 2.7 powerhouse lol?

Correct, this is a non-hybrid TRD Offroad.

There's nothing further we can do without the EROM file from VFTuner.

This may have been asked and answered before but I couldn't find any info on the possible customization of the torque converter behavior. Specifically if the 6 speed auto in the 3rd gen can be programmed to fully lock up the torque converter in 3rd gear. From my observation and understanding the torque converter will only lock up in 4th, 5th, and 6th. Sometimes while towing on a steep grade I need to be in 3rd gear to maintain speed but in 3rd the torque converter unlocks and the transmission then begins building up heat. If it could lock up fully in 3rd then I could stay in 3rd without having to be concerned with the transmission building up heat. I have a large aftermarket transmission cooler and rarely see temps over 220F while pulling up a steep grade, but I would prefer to not see it get over 210. I am really hoping that the ECT button can be set up as a tow mode that will hold the gears for a bit longer, and gear lock with torque converter lockup in 3rd-6th in S-Mode.

Those are impressive gains with the tune alone! Wonder what mods will go on next to see what other gains in efficiency over OE can be had.

We'll be testing intake, intercooler (once they're available), and exhaust for sure.

But this platform shows very promising results from just a tune.
