Hey guys, I’ve got a 2010 TRD Sport 4x4 with 28,000 miles and recently noticed some odd noises. When I turn either direction going forward and backward there’s a springy, clicky sound from my steering wheel. This only happens at speeds below 15mph when turning sorta sharp. However, if I drive in 4wd for a few minutes around a field then it will go away for about 30 miles or so. The other thing is when I break slightly, such as rolling to a stop, there’s occasionally a click sound from the break pedal/front area/bed area. It has no regularity to it, just random. Thank you for any help!

To bet installed: bling grill, headlights, fog lights.
Loose caliper bolts can make a click, or a clunk, or a bang, or an ambulance ride. I’d check those for the breaking noise.

The other noise I dunno. But I like the short term fix; do some off-roading :D Wild, ignorant guess would be something in the front axle, 4 wheel drive related, is almost engaging when you do the sharp turn.

Could a front u-joint make the noise? I dunno.

Check your caliper bolts as stated above but the brake click is likely the pads shifting in the calipers (also known as pad slap), pretty common due to the design of the calipers and how the pads are held in place. Mine has done it since it's had around 30k on it, I don't worry with it but there are a few things that can be done to quiet it down if it bothers you (search "brake pad slap").

The noise when turning sharp may be CV joints, have you inspected your CV boots to see if any are leaking grease?

Thank you all for replying. I’ll take a look at the CV joints when I get home later. As for the breaks, it’s about time to replace the pads anyways, so I’ll have that done when I rotate the tires in about 1500 miles. Will update in a bit.

Alright, so I checked out the cv joints. No grease leaking out and everything looks fine. The clicky/springy sound when turning seems to be coming from the steering wheel more than anywhere else. I just don’t understand why driving around in 4wd for a bit would change anything inside the steering wheel.
