Falken Wildpeak at4w sl or Toyo at3 load c

    Hello, I know there are many tire posts but hoping someone could help me with this. I am torn between the sl wildpeaks or the load c at3. The sl has a higher max load and weighs less than the Toyo’s and is cheaper. What would be the benefit of the load c toyos? I am on e load KO2 and they are overkill for the driving I do (mostly road and FSRs). Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Load C is an LT tire construction that will overall be stronger than an SL construction, despite having a lower load capacity. The load capacity is still more than you would need for a midsize truck. An SL would still be fine for what you’re doing though. The downside to LT is being heavier and having slightly less traction.

    All loads and such aside, I’d choose the Toyo over anything Falken. Maybe the 4’s are better but my AT3W Falkens were terrible. Toyo ATIIIs have been great tires.

    After reading so many posts about poor life of nearly anything Falken, I've removed them from my list of potential replacements.

    I didn’t have them nearly long enough to test their life (1 month, 1k), but I did have plenty of complaints.

    265/70R17 SL:

    • heavy as hell, something like 48 lbs
    • Mpg took a hit of like 2 mpg and I felt them all the time
    • They didn’t balance right
    • They were slightly oversized in both width and height and rubbed (Nissan frontier, stock size)
    • They were very resistive to steering (steering was heavier and they made a bunch of scrubbing noise against the pavement)
    considering all of that, esp chalky the lack of balancing and I wanted them gone pretty much before I even got home. I didn’t know what I wanted to replace them with so I did some research and had my tire guy get me General Grabber ATX at the time. When I got those it was like night and day. Every single complaint I had went back to normal once swapped.

    the only pro they had was good braking traction….but other tires have that too.

    Now I haven’t run Generals on the Toyota. I decided to try Toyos and I like them better, so I’ve stuck with them. But I definitely will never try Falken again.

    I’m curious if my experience was rare or what. Lots of people seem to like them. Must be luck or something, because I don’t think anybody would like the set I had. Mine were from Thailand.

    From what I’ve read, Toyo tires have a great reputation. I haven’t been able to find many, if any, bad reviews of the Toyo Open Country ATIII.

    They definitely seem to be a little lighter than some of the competitors. Does that lightness come at a cost of durability? It doesn’t seem so, but there are going to be exceptions to everything, I suppose.
