Last minute post and open invite for those interested in joining.
My family and i are going to Cape cod national seashore for a camping weekend. I've been a couple times and went there in May with my family.

We will be staying at Adventure Bound Campground. It's affordable and well-equipped with a clean shower house (My wife is incredibly picky and even she thought they were clean). From here you can walk a trail to the beach. But this is very "domesticated." There are dozens and dozens of permanent RV with artificial yards, garages etc for rent so you definitely don't feel the camping atmosphere.

    https://book.abcamping.com/resorts/59/adventure-bound-cape-cod-ma

I have booked site 260 which has room for additional trucks.

Saturday morning- head to ranger station for inspection and permits. spend the day on the beach, exploring the road, lighthouse marshes, or just sitting ocean side.

Sunday- back to beach for half a day and head home around noon.

this would be a nice opportunity for those with spouses or families as well.

    THINGS TO KNOW
First-And-Foremost: Any 4x4 can do this. air down your tires and go. I started at 15 PSI and had to air down more last time. Low range also helps to keep trans temps down.

    1. It costs $50 for a 7 day vehicle pass- there is no 1 day option
    2. You have to provide documentation for vehicle registration, insurance and a DL
    3. You have to sit through a 20 min training video
    4. Your vehicle will get "inspected" for the following requirements.
    • Shovel: Heavy-duty shovel equal to a military folding shovel
    • Towing Device: Any of the following which are at least 14 feet long:
      Tow Strap: 1.5"; Rope: 3/4"; Chain 5/16"; Cable 1/4"
    • Jack: Standard size (e.g., vehicle manufacturer's jack)
    • Jack Support Board: Wood: 10" x 12" x 1.5" or Plywood: 10" x 12" x 3/4"
    • Tire Pressure Gauge: Must register to 5 p.s.i. or lower
    • SCV's and pick-up truck campers must also have a fire extinguisher and permanently mounted holding tanks for gray and black water.
    • Spare Tire: Must meet tire standards outlined below- an oem spare will suffice. It does not even have to be a fullsize spare.
    5. 15 MPH speed limit
    6. You have to pay for a beach fire permit- but only 1 is needed per group.
    7. There is no camping on the beach unless in a SCV
    8. You are on a legal road. No open container or drinking
    9. dogs allowed with exceptions
    10. you can fish from the shore

    Thanks for the tag!
I am tentatively in. If we go, it would just be a day trip on Saturday.
The uncertainty is (a) weather and (b) beach access. We're about 2.5 hours away so I can play that shenanigans "maybe" card :p

    Here's the current access map 2024-09-23 8AM

yeah, the notes say they are closed for potential tidal flooding. By the end of the week, i would expect sections to open back up if the high tide line of the beach front isn't destroyed. Prior to this weekend, everything was wide open.
Weather was an entirely rain and has transitioned to decent. It's campfire season on beach for me.

My gf left me at the house with 6 chickens and two dogs to take care of. I'm sure the dogs would love to go but I'm not sure if I can ditch the chicks for that long

definitely want to get more fishing in on the shore tho..

    edit :

Fire permits are free on RPN/RPS. No fires on coast guard but thats a 3 min drive from Adventure bound as long as you got a rod on you. Only like 6p-7a though.

Not many permits given a day, like 3 or 5. You can request them 3 days in advance starting at 9am. 508-487-2100

Thanks for the heads up on the fire permits. i forgot that you could call ahead for them. Coast guard beach is closed. i haven't been lucky enough to have it open since my 2019 trip. I would love to do some night fishing but i can't be coming back late and waking the family up.
Hopefully the blue fish are running. they're fun to catch and decent eating IMO.

If you change your mind, shoot me a message. I currently have just my family and 260 and good room.

    @GarlicFarts what's your outlook?

    How did your trip go?

I might be able to head out Sunday to Tuesday with my gf getting back from her work trip. Tbd. If I do, I’m pretty sure I’ll be fishing or walking the dog the entire time lol

It went well given i was camping with my 5yr old daughter, dog, and pregnant wife lol. weather was perfect. To make everyone happy my weekend menu is pretty over-the-top. High 50s at night to sleep easy with getting hot and high 60s during the day. Cool breeze with a hot sun on the beach. Fishing was non existent but the tide didn't align with us on the beach.
I tried to get to High Head in the afternoon but buried myself at the entrance hill climb. I was at 35psi but didn't get my compressor wired before the trip. I had to use MTS, locker, crawl control to get out and turned around.

Overall it was a great weekend. I will warn people staying at Adventure Bound in Truro. The Coyotes are getting pretty brazen at night. I don't recall them being an issue in 2017, 2018, 2019. Don't leave your dog or small child unattended. in May they were getting into peoples' tents camps while the slept. They are roaming in packs of 10+. I saw dozens of eyes just shining my headlamp in the trees (literally feet from your camp). They didn't come out until 3am this time but were getting into it with someone's dog by the sounds of it. They were openly wandering through the campground, not just the tent sites and woods on the east end.

Holy shit. That’s crazy. My dogs small at like 35-40 lbs so I put her up anytime I step off.
Kind of extra glad I sleep in the camper topper now.

glad you had good weather, Salisbury had some crazy surf on friday

Glad the weekend went well. I wish i could have made it. Crazy with the Coyotes. I dont remember anything more than a squirrel in past years. What's adventure bounds policy on fire arms? lol
