Picked up this thing yesterday in San Diego.

2012 Tacoma X-Runner with a TRD supercharger that has been on it since new. Around 97,800 when I got it. Drove it home to Tucson last night too.

    Dealer pics from Craigslist.

POS bullbar and LED light bar removed this morning, along with the bug deflector. I now need to replace the front bumper lower trim since that was cut into to install the bullbar.

LED fog lights or whatever they are will also be coming off since most of the LEDs in both, don't work. Then I need to see why the factory fogs aren't working. There's also LED strips in the headlights, so new headlight will happen and them more LED strips on the bottom of the doors. Those are also coming off. The LED stuff is all cheap, old and failing.

But, it does have the TRD supercharger. :woot:

New rims and tires will be happening, proper tuning as well. The goal is to get it into the 400-450 WHP range. Needs a short sifter bad, it's like driving a row boat right now. Might need front wheel bearings and probably new shocks all around since the Bilstiens on it now appear to be the originals. I'll probably be lowering it some too.

    This is gunna be fun!

Very cool! I remember seeing these new on dealer lots. I recall a salesperson saying they didn't sell well. :notsure: I almost bought a radiant red xrunner. :burnrubber:

Some things are being fixed, some things have been fixed.

Engine, trans and rear diff oils all changed last weekend. Installed some locking doors for the bed cubbies as well.

Today, all the chocks were replaced as they were still the OEM originals with close to 100k on them. OEM Bilstein in from and KYB Excel-G shocks in the rear. Also replaced the OEM 3 leaf rear leaf springs with 2019 4WD real 4 leaf springs. Forgot to take before measurements but it does seem to have lowered the rear a little. Ride feels great so far but I have only done a small amount of driving since finishing.

Also removed the brass restrictor from the boost control valve so that all available boost is now applied with the throttle.

Tomorrow will be a busy day. Received my Core short shifter today.

Also have a new Android head unit going in with new black surround.

New wheels and tires coming next week.

Core short shifter is installed. Works awesome, highly recommend one if you have been thinking about getting a short shifter. Install is easy and straight forward.

I used battery cable shrink tube on the chrome handle to make it black. Worked really well. I also stripped the silver paint off the cup holder using denatured alcohol. Took the OEM paint off pretty easily.

Didn't tackle the new android head unit yet. Instead, I installed the new front lower valance or whatever it's called. Replaced because some PO had cut holes into it to install crappy LED fog lights as running lights. Most of the LEDs had failed and the lenses were very yellow. Wiring for the LED fogs is removed to under the dash, which I'll tackle tomorrow when i do the head unit.

Also took the remaining bullbar brackets off since they were easy to get too with that valance out of the way. I have new front spoilers too. They are out to get painted so running without for now as I used one of the old ones for paint matching.

2nd new Android head unit is in and working. This one works with the steering wheel controls now and so far, it's just all around better. I guess the first one I tried was just a little too cheap. New black surround is in and got a bunch more wiring cleaned up today. Just have the steering wheel and gauges to de-silver now.

Will get better pics later but wheels and tires on on finally.

Needs some drop now I think. Tires are 285/35/19 and match the height of the OEM tires or damn close. OEM are 27" tall and these are 26.9" tall. 19x9.5 wheels with +22 offset.

Not much happening yet, lots of things are lined up and pending arrival.

I did get the battery terminals updated with SDHQ terminals and installed and new hold down. Little out of focus but I also swapped in a shorter Tundra oil fill extension and TRD oil cap to make filling with oil easier around the supercharger.

Little dirty and still waiting for the front aero skirts to come back from paint but still takes a good pic.

Nice! I didn't realize the X-Runners had the same pimp cane style e-brake that the 1st gen Tacomas have. Now you'll suffer from what I do when I go back and forth between my 4runner and Tacoma...always grabbing the wrong spot for the hand brake lol.

Forgot to post this. Covered the steering wheel with a DIY leather cover. Same company I used for the 4runner's steering wheel. Also replaced/updated the steering wheel controls with 2016+ black controls. Not all of the buttons are working, so I wonder if I have a missing wire or if it was cut by whoever installed the stereo system that was in the truck when I got it. They butchered the OEM harness.

This afternoon, I installed the new TRD Pro headlights and removed the HID stuff that was in there for the fog lights. I need new fog lights now since the ones in there now were modified for the HIDs and I can't plug them into the stock harness. Shitty pic, sorry. It was late.

    Front big brake kit done.

    Disk comparison:

    Caliper comparison:

Not shown are the new StopTech braided lines. Didn't realize the truck already had some but they are definitely old, so replacing them is probably a good thing. Calipers are new Lexus 4 piston, from a 2007-2020 LS460, LS460L, LS600h or LS500. They are pretty damn light for their size too, lighter than the originals. 360mm rotors.

Haven't really hit them hard yet as I need to bleed the whole system again and since the rear disc conversion is up next, I got lazy and only bled the front. But they make the truck stop without issue, so I'm sure they will make a big difference once I'm all done. Highly recommend the XAT Racing conversion kit. Very well made and was a breeze to install, with the bonus being it's all Toyota parts still. They have them for both 5 and 6 lugs 2nd gens.

Well, rear disc conversion went on hold. I went through the parts Friday night, to get ready for the install Saturday and Sunday if needed. Turns out the brake lines were missing. Contact SOS and had a response Saturday morning and they have shipped the missing brake lines out to me already. Great customer service from those guys. Saturday, i ended up just re-bleeding the brakes as it will be a week or 2 before I can tackle the rear disc conversion again. Also installed new tail lights and 3rd brake light with Amazon stuff. At least it's all LED now.

I did receive my leather seat covers Friday afternoon. Wasn't expecting them that fast, so that was a nice surprise. Just like the 4Runner, I got the covers from leatherseats.com. I love my leather in the 4Runner, so it was an easy choice. Install is slow, sine I'm doing it myself but it's totally worth it IMO.

Shitty pic but I started with the passenger side. Got everything underneath cleaned up too.

    Old cloth upholstery removed.

Nekkid seat. I steamed the foam to bring it back to life.

Bottom cushion done. Navy blue leather with a dark slate suede insert.

Backrest done. It's a bitch to get on there. The 4Runner backrests were much easier as they were able to incorporate zippers for that one. Not the case here. You have to wrestle that cover into place and it's a pain.

    Back in the truck.

Also picked up a new p[hone today, so I was testing out he camera.
