Two way alarms are the way to go. I have a Page Alert and seems to work very well. Best part is knowing the alarm is on by looking at it, don't have to walk all the way back to check.

The mousetraps might be a bad idea. If they're a sorry enough human being that they're trying to steal your stuff and they get their fingers stabbed/crushed theres probably a decent chance they put a pinstripe down your truck and then slash your tires or something out of spite.

Learn from the Africans. When my grandma lived in south Rhodesia they didn't fuck around. If you got into a car you had to disable the gun pointing straight up your ass in 10 seconds or else you would get splatted into the windshield. Sounds incredibly unreasonable and unsafe but hey it worked right? Lmao

Got the Viper installed yesterday :) I played with some of the general settings and it works good. I have the 3303 with battery backup, hood pin, and door pins. I bought a perimeter sensor separately so I can wire that in myself.

Anyone know how to adjust the shock sensor sensitivity via the remote? I know its possible because there is a setup menu in the remote for it. The manual just says that if adjustments are required I should contact the alarm dealer.

FYI, I didn't see anyone answer your question about the shield. I just looked and mine only has a shield on the driver's side. Passenger side completely exposed.
