    Hi everyone,

I got four used 16” oem alloy wheels off a SR for free from my buddy who owns a car lot. I was thinking about using these on my 2023 TRD Sport during the winters to keep my stock wheels nice and out of the salt as I live in Pennsylvania.

My buddy said they will fit fine going from 17” to 16”, but wanted to do my research before I spend money on tires.

Anyone have any experience doing this and encountered any issues?

    Thanks!

Mount a tire based on size and profile, shouldn't be a problem...

Might double check offset rim to rim though... can't say anything of substance comparison-wise between the oem set you inherited and what is on the truck

They will fit fine but going from 17” to 16” your speedometer will not be correct but you can stop my your local dealer and they can change the settings for you. You will also need a set of TPMS and they will need to be programmed to your truck then you will need to program your original set when you switch back in the spring. I think all this is correct but check with your local Toyota Dealer before you go with my advice.

My ‘22 Pro came with 16” wheels. You should be fine.

BTW those are painted steel wheels not alloy so they will rust eventually.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

A 265/70/16 is almost identical to the stock sport tires in height and width, see the comparison below.

Changing rim size fro 17" to 16" has nothing to do with the speedo reading. Tire size choice will though if the tire diameter is different than stock.

the speedometer does not know what size wheels are mounted......only the tire size matters

A Toyota dealer CANNOT adjust the speedometer on our vehicles for tire size changes. Rough County and another company do have a device to do so.

you're welcome. i could not believe the other commenters who corrected the other misstatement did not correct that one too.

i'm a little sensitive when it comes to dealer recommendations. it would be nice if the dealers could do the speed adjustment, but corporate toyota has decided differently. i can only imagine it has to do with too many lawsuits.

Steel is an alloy. Also, aluminum rusts. Sorry, going back to metallurgy and 30 years of automotive terminology inaccuracy. At some point aluminum alloy wheels got simplified to alloy wheels. Aluminum wheels rust and form aluminum oxide. Pet peeve of engineers.

After the party, he can go and correct Wikipedia…

Rust is a general name for a complex of oxides and hydroxides of iron,[4] which occur when iron or some alloys that contain iron are exposed to oxygen and moisture for a long period of time. Over time, the oxygen combines with the metal, forming new compounds collectively called rust, in a process called rusting. Rusting is an oxidation reaction specifically occurring with iron. Other metals also corrode via similar oxidation, but such corrosion is not called rusting.
