Ive seen him sleep in a pop-up bed tent, the GFC is an upgrade.

When I was young (I dunno, 8y/o?) I woke up to a deflated air mattress and a stomach pain so bad I was everyones campsite alarm clock for a half mile radius. My parents had to break camp fast and find a store that sold pepto to get things under control. I think a rock had prodded my stomach all night and aggravated things.

Every time Ive awoken since to an even partly deflated mattress ive been worried about it. I also hate setting up my big-ass tent so sleeping in the bed under the shell has been an upgrade. I can just roll into camp at night, unroll the mattress and crash. Nobody even knows Im back there.

I currently sleep in my bed with a camper shell, theres just something about being in your vehicle and off the ground that feels better.
Definitely worth the 3 minutes it takes me to unload gear and lay out my mattress and sleeping bag instead of fucking around with a tent. I hate putting tents away with a passion

Probably wise to wait to see the finished product to make sure you'd want one built by me

I'm great at coming up with ideas, most don't make it to fruition though lol
diy camper build has been on my mind for a couple years now

I feel that. If you camp frequently, and move like daily I could definitely see the convenience factor coming into play

See you bring up an interesting side point, perhaps.
I literally cannot sleep on an air mattress. I sleep 18x better on a flat, hard ground (but the bed tent could fulfill that w/o a mattress too). My last camping experience was terrible... Tossing and turning until 3am. I yeeted the air mattress on a whim and fell fast asleep within 5mins and didn't wake up until much past sunrise

For me the GFC is completely worth it. Gets the wife willing to get out and camp more. When I am by myself I bring the 4runner and sleep in it. Yeah regular ground tents are getting easy to set up and take down but I still hate doing it. The comfort of the memory foam mattresses creates more comfort for me atleast. Everyone sleeps different tho.

So we still have the RV which I guess means we're keeping it and trying to make Darlington Adventures into some kind of actual business!?! Ive got some upgrades coming soon now that its cooling off in Phoenix and I can finally work on it in my shop again. If any of you are interested, I decided to start a Youtube channel for Darlington Adventures. Im going to chronicle the restoration of the 2nd Blazer camper I bought this summer as well as document any adventures we go on. This is my first attempt at editing videos ever so go easy on me hahaha. Please like, subscribe, all that crap.

Honestly, go ham on the bad editing.

Too many overland content creators are cleanly edited "Guy in a hat talking about stuff"

Ive thought that if I did an Overland Youtube series id make it ridiculous and skew on the humor angle (without leaning into being mean-spirited).

I know, the RV and Blazer are still in Flagstaff. I just need to bring them down here by Nov 1 because I cant park them on the street anymore up there. So it will be soon-ish but not until the weather cools permanently.

My angle will be a mix of trip related vids and actual working on stuff in the shop vids. Ideally the vintage camper restorations will be a hit because thats what Id like to concentrate on, so thats what the first series of videos will be. From the perspective of a non-professional thats figuring it out as I go. Hopefully the amateur wrenching, welding etc. will be interesting to the people that are sick of all the high dollar high production stuff but want something a little more than a really trashy guy changing oil on the dirt floor of his pole barn, which there is A LOT of on Youtube

Yeah and Ill admit this is my absolutely twisted sense of humor but you could still do all that with a straight face but edit it badly and in turn make it funny.

On your note though, your Blazer is definitely cool and could be a popular feature that people will tune in to see. I saw it on another YouTube video from AVO when they were checking oyt the 4WC display. They seemed to like it cause they lingered on it twice as long as the other vehicles.

    Yay or Nay:

Would you guys consider it worth it to get set up to run 33's if for no other reason than to nab cheap take offs from Heep bros?

CMC, Plastic Trim and what else? My truck is only lifted an inch or so.

I dunno what the going rate on Rubi take-offs is but the fact you can do 35s on a bone stock JL/JT means even they don't really want them. Used to be about $500/5 during covid and you could flip the wheels to cover install and beer.

If you don't wheel and don't mind skinny tires, the lower trims run a 245 31.5" and they basically give them away. My uncle dailies a Wrangler and just rotates new tires and wheels every few years.

I was specifically eyeing this for wheeling. Theres at least one set of 5 BFG's on the social media site :) right now for $500 that I was figuring I could get to thrash on.

Im currently on 32's and have been for a few years.
