AC clutch issue

Hello, has anyone else had their ac clutch fail? I get the impression this is becoming a common problem. My mechanic tells me that only toyota makes just the clutch assembly, they've been on back order since around June. So, if I want this fixed, I'll need a whole new compressor from an after market source. this is way too expensive for me. So my question is, does anyone tell me where I might find just the clutch? Any help would be much appreciated.
