I had a 3rd gen years ago (2017 trd or)

Looking to get another to transport the kids around and explore overlanding and mild off roading.

I cannot find much information on the new adjustable perch old man emu front lifts that use a spacer system.Does anyone have experience with this?

Do the 3rd gens have issues with 4wd actuators. It was no big deal in NC but WV actually gets real snow.

    Thanks.

I would say to just get 4runner, its last V6 too. Tacoma or any midsize pick up was never meant to be family vehicle.

For reference, I used to work in parts at a Toyota dealer in Northern Minnesota.

I maybe saw one 3rd gen 4wd actuator replaced. I think they might be too new to go bad, plenty of 2000s/early 2010s of all models, mostly Tundras.

As per manual, engage once a month on a straight road or loose surface and I bet you’ll be fine for a long time.

    Overlanding/mild offloading.
The new ome springs and struts appear to be adjustable with a spacee Vs picking a different spring combo for your needs

I'd lean toward a 4runner as well, if youre looking at toting kids and wanting off road chops.
we have both in the driveway.

You probably dont need suspension for "mild Off-roading." sounds like logging roads and maybe some wash out areas. Get some better tires and that should work for you.

There is a suspension forum that might help you with searching for new systems but if it was me i would go with something that alot of people run, known issues, fixes and judging by your questions you may be on your own if you can wrench or spending $$$ finding a shop to fix issues at 120/hr (find a picture of someones truck that you like and ask them what they have)

My actuator works fine but i dont think they take well to being submerged in water. (so water up to the bottom of your doors = going to have issues)

Generally I am pretty handy and used to do maintenance at a Toyota and Honda for a few years so I have a large tool inventory. YouTube is my friend.

You got kids? do you have the time? Youtube is great for alot of common suspension systems its not rocket surgery but a new system that sounds similar to Bilstein 6112 why be different just to be different?

kids part time unfortunately. I wanted to go with the tried-and-true OME but it appears they swapped to this spacer system. So I was interested in seeing if anyone has experience. I am open to suggestions.
