Hello! Recently I Had my evaporator serviced on my 2017 TRD Sport, replaced with original new one in a Toyota Stealership. Once done, they gave the truck back to me with the TPMS on and I noticed the tire pressure monitor menu option is not available anymore. The option is simply not there. so it's not the "--" that other users reported. Really annoying. I noticed on my way home and drove back to the dealer and they said that one of the TPMS was bad and needed to be replaced. I am 100% sure when I left the truck it did NOT have TPMS light on and i could read the tire pressures normally.

Anyone else experience something like this or similar. Seems like i don't have any other options :(

Not looking to stick up for the dealer but electronics can break without warning and 8 years seems to be an average lifespan for those sensors.

The menu becomes unavailable when a sensor is bad?

    that seems weird

I think it might lock you out but someone else would know for sure. My sensors have been in a pressurized PVC tube since 2 months after I got the truck though. Lol!

When you say 'evaporator serviced' did they do a Frigi-Clean service to clean and disinfect the evaporator or did you need to replace the evaporator? Evaporator replacement would involve removing the whole dash which could be a can of worms for connectors not reattached, etc.

Around 7-10 years is supposed to be the normal life of sensors. But Toyota sensors seem to be above average. Mine were still working after 14 years and I've heard of a lot of Toyota's lasting that long. But I was getting new tires anyway. I bought new sensors ahead of time and took them to the tire store. They cost me about $80 at the time and there was no extra charge to install them. They have come down in price, I've seen them for $30-$40 for a 4 pack lately.

I'm not sure that is your problem, but as cheap as they are and as easy as it is to keep working sensors there is no excuse to not just replace them at this point. I've started replacing them proactively with every other set of tires instead of waiting for them to die. It costs less than a tank of gas or an oil change every 6-7 years.

Good point Mike. I wouldn’t think there’s a discrete connector under the dash for TPMS though, wouldn’t that all go straight to the ECM?

try to take it to discount tire, they may have the thing that programs the sensors that might give info on each one

Tacomas used to have a button for TPMS reset or something on the lower left of the dash, not sure about my new one.

If you need sensors Autel TS508 kit bought at AdvanceAuto when they have a 15% discount cost $271 and comes with 8 sensors. Tool alone can cost $250. Now they have a WIFI update model that is selling for less. I got one in 2020 and used the extra sensors for snow tires on 2 Tacomas. A Subaru in the family needs the position relearn when you rotate tires or the warning comes up the the local dealer charges $65 so it paid for itself.

So had it replaced, it seems to be common on these 2017 Taco's so whole dash was removed. I suspect something was not plugged correctly but i am not aware of the wiring.
