Today I swapped a JBL head unit in my 2019 SR5 and everything works fine but the volume knob and steering wheel volume doesn't work. Just connect the stock SR5 and volume controls works fine. Any advise is welcome TIA.

JBL headunit will not work in anything except a JBL car. You need the non-JBL entune headunit (looks the same but doesnt say JBL on it)

If you want to get the JBL headunit working, you will need to get the JBL amp and wiring harness.

Did you have to buy a jbl amp?? I just bought a 2019 sr5. Found the JBL unit on FB and purchased it. Everything works, nav, back up camera, etc. however the volume and volume steering controls don’t work. Hoping there’s another solution now from 2020 that doesn’t require having to purchase a jbl amp and harness just to get the volume to work. Already bought a new bezel as well since the 6.1” bezel head unit didn’t fit the 7” entune/jbl unit.

It’s not going to work without the amp. They come up from time to time on buy/sell/trade

the jbl amp is what controls the volume and tone controls. the head unit 'talks' digitally to the amp for that functionality.

With that being said I might have better luck finding the 7” non jbl version to slip in instead.. but if I found the amp and harness, would I notice a difference in sound with the jbl amp but none jbl speakers in the sr5?

Your going to more money, time and headaches trying to find the harness, amp, sub, rear trim panel and speakers than you would have just getting the right radio.

Sell your JBL and buy the correct one.

JBL really isn't worth the price or effort.

you're far better off going aftermarket in an sr5 than trying to maintain factory toyota parts. really none of the factory toyota parts are going to offer any difference in sound quality.
