I’m looking to install fog lamps on my 2008 Tacoma, has the 2.7L is a regular cab, manual, and has the SR5 package. I understand my truck is not pre wired for fog lamps. Regardless I still want a factory look. I’ll try and be very clear of what I DONT wanna do. I don’t want to splice any wires together to create a circuit, and I don’t want to buy any aftermarket kits that mount wires directly to the battery or use a fuse tap. What I want to accomplish
is a 100% factory look. Is this doable? I have a couple theories, and am unable to find exactly what I’m looking for to test it.

Starting off, you have your fog lamp wire harness, that connects to the bulbs themselves, and is the part people lack when they are prewired. What does this harness plug into? Am I able to buy the other harness? Which brings me to my next question, being that obviously you would need the correct fuse wiring setup within the fuse box. Am I able to add wires to add the correct fuse or relay? Like how you can disconnect wires from wire pigtail ends. There would probably already be a free space available for it. Or am should I just buy a fuse box from from one that had fog lamps? Because would the plug setup be the same? I’m sorry for how confusing this is, I just hate how messy looking aftermarket fog lamp kits are, and my idea is that OEM works so why change it? Either way sorry for being picky, but I’m definitely willing to go the extra mile, to wire or add or whatever to make it an OEM copy if not buy whatever OEM part needed to make it look factory.

Why not a relay kit to a factory switch? If you build the harness, you can make it look OEM with expandable wire loom. Think you’re making this more complicated than it has to be, especially for something as simple as fogs. Just my opinion. :)

To bet installed: bling grill, headlights, fog lights.
Yup. It’s pretty easy to make it look factory.

You are going to need to open up the factory fuse box to add the relay and fuse. You’d need to add the appropriate terminals in the right spots of the fuse box.

That’s a big job. And would likely have a better chance of having issues doing it that way.

As others said, a stand alone kit would be much easier and less of a risk.

I most definitely am. I’m very picky, and it’s gonna buy me when I pop my hood and see a wire connected to my battery terminal, and if I need to change a fuse and I see my fog lamp fuse tap.

It doesn’t sound super hard. Could I not just buy a fuse box, and different engine wire harness from a higher trim level so I don’t have to wire anything? Then it would just be plug and play.

Possibly. But I don't know if any 4 cyl trucks had fog lights from the factory?
    Maybe a PreRunner?

But then you'd have to make sure the fuses are in the correct spots.

At that point, you might as well open up the fuse box. (But I don't recommend it)

You would need an entire engine compartment wire harness and fuse box. The fuse box may or may not have all the same powered spots as the lower level fuse box. There are plenty of ways to make it look like it’s not there that are less expensive. A quick look up of the harness is like 3k. Gonna be some expensive fog lights.

Haha you’re not wrong there. Idk I was also considering adding VSC. And everyone else’s says it’s costly and not worth it. If buying the harness would mean killing two birds with one stone, I’d be considerate of it, otherwise reluctantly I might have to go with the A.M fog light kit. Regardless of a final decision, you guys have any good suggestions as of kits? I know there are tons out there. I would be utilizing stock bulbs and housings. Also would it be wired in with my lamps so they would be on all the time, or would they turn off with high beams?

Depending on where you’re located. Some states require for the fogs to auto off when the high beams are on or at minimum can’t drive with both on

You would need the entire engine harness, entire dash harness , ecu and whatever other associated items. Those
would probably exceed the value or the truck. But hey if you’re gonna jump in might as well jump in the deep end. Also those items will have to come off a v6 model and I’m not sure you’ll get that to work with the 4cyl truck or at least it’s gonna be a shit ton of work.

The 4cyl did come with it. From 2009 and up it was standard, and anything before was very rare, but still available. A new from Toyota harness runs about 2 grand, the computer from Toyota is 659 on sale right now. So yeah it might be damn near impossible without a parts truck readily available. Regardless it’s still something to think about. Funny thing is my dash is prewired for everything. For example I just installed all factory cruise control parts. My problem is only with the lack of fuses and additional harness’s. Like I wanna add keyless entry, but my harness in the doors doesn’t support it, even though my dash is wired for it. Honestly a mess to traverse the various threads pages and even Toyota provided repair and install manuals. All say something different, so when it comes to OEM added upgrades, (like cruise control) it gets complicated to verify things. Like based off of vin or even basic trim levels and such, all signs will say no applicable to your vehicle. Which makes such a headache for ordering parts.

I would say yes, but I’d be going with the factory pod setup. That and I just bought some nice xenon bulbs, and I’m not sure if they would fit. That and would I even be able to get just the housing. Always bugs me when I gotta pay for both.
