Is that why they're a bunch of salty fucks? The community was the worst part about owning a Jeep.

Throwing this one out there because the Tacoma / 4Runner / GX underpinnings are all the same.

I have a clunk that happens when the front suspension gets loaded/unloaded. I can make it happen on command by making the runner "lurch" and just jabbing the brake pedal over and over.

Take a look at this video and tell me if that rear LCA bushing movement is normal. Front bushing doesn't budge, the rear one kinda wiggles.

All the other clacks and clunks and whatnot are from the obvious things like the CV, etc.

Watch it in 1080P otherwise you won't be able to see it.

I'm thinking it MIGHT be that when @Yacob_D and I were installing those marlin crawler gussets, we didn't pinch the LCA tabs down enough and now they're too strong to be pinched down to clamp onto the bushing just with the normal torque spec.

I know the instructions say spread em if need be to fit the LCA's after, but it didn't say to crunch em down.

I'm gonna write a quick email to Marlin Crawler.

In other (only slightly less autistic) news...

I vibe with these GX wheels on the 4runner...

    20240928_165526.jpg

The tuck isn't TOO bad, but they're like a full inch pulled in from something like a TRD pro rim. Also very much worth noting the tires on there are 30" HT's so they're gonna look a little scrawny.
    20240928_165543.jpg

Unfortunately, like all Toyota trucks we are blessed with little chode wheel studs, after actually measuring and fitting up I think I'd only be able to use something like a 3mm shim spacer to keep myself at 8 full turns.

Looks like a wheel bearing is shot or the CV nut needs to be tightened up.

    At under 50K?

Also the CV nut has never been off and is probably still staked. I had a few lug nuts off when I took that video, I'm talking about that movement in the rear LCA bushing.

It's exactly what I thought it was- found the spot! It's a little too wide, and too strong with the gusset to get squished by the stock torque spec!

The bushing isn't touching the frame. You can actually see the alignment eccentric bolt thru the gap, about .030"
    20240928_213849.jpg

So now, do I take the LCA off and get a c-clamp and honk on it harder than a LCA bolt torqued to 150 foot pounds?

Or do I go on McMaster, grab a stainless machine shim, surface it to the right thickness, then slip the bolt out and slide it up in there before re-torquing...

I'm worried about cracking a weld by putting too much force into it, there's way more meat there now with the gusset.

I'll have to get under there and look and see if there's any welds that would get stressed trying to pinch it down.

I'd also need a serious clamp to do that...
Maybe one of those big ass C clamps with an impact hex on the end instead of the standard vise-style handle.

Get a big F clamp such as this (love these things) Put clamp pressure on the tabs and try and use a BFH to give the tabs a whack to set them. Tighten clamp and repeat untill you've gotten them where you want. Won't be easy with the gussets and the bottom of the tab where it's welded probably won't move. That's the point of the gussets...

Well shit, a little bit of morning calisthenics on la barra de tramposos and the frame is actually touching the bushing now.

I just went ham on that eccentric bolt as it was the easiest "tool" to clamp down with. It was also probably under torque spec.

You can still see the knurling ever so slightly. I'll give it 100 miles and re-torque.

You’re in west valley, right? I used this guy before, it’s a kid in high school which I love to see. He charged me $160 to haul this crap away, and then some. I added more to it after he quoted me.

From the "There MUST be a backstory" section ... saw this on the freeway today ... and, no, the tilt was not due to the flat road.
