VFW members, are you out there?

The pomp and ceremony is not for everyone. It's certainly not my favorite part either. I do like having something to help keep me involved in the world around me.

 

VFW Life Member but never got into the local post before it closed. Not sure which one took over the membership.

 

It's probably with the state org.

I was thinking of joining, but the focus on drinking at my local chapters seems like it could be rough on my sobriety! It actually seems like a great scene for the right person though. My Army buddy is active in the VFW. It has given him lots of contacts and opportunities. The VFW in Eagle River WI has a killer fish fry and a Cobra gunship too!

 

Like a lot of things, it is what you make of it. Every post is a bit different. My post has a couple hundred members, but it's held together and functions through a smaller number of dedicated regulars that show up to more meeting than they miss. There looking for a new post adjutant, I'm considering volunteering for the role. But I've missed half the meetings this year due to out of state travel, and not sure I can commit enough time for the posts needs. I've not considered taking on any of the other post offices for that reason. I know I want to be more involved, but other issues have had a higher priority lately.

 

I'm a life member. My involvement extends about as far as changing posts when I move if I find one I don't dislike too much. Not a fan of most of them, my experience personally as one of the younger vets that everyone says they want to attract has been not so awesome.
