Decent amber fogs for on road use on a 3rd gen that aren't $400?

I've been looking for round fog pods that will fit in the OEM fog light spot for a tacoma and have a beam pattern that's safe to use on the road.

I really like the Baja design squadron-r although I'm hoping there's maybe an equivalent auxbeam offering that's not quite as expensive.

I want better visibility with my fogs in dusty and snowy conditions but don't want to be the arse hole blinding everyone else.

The diode dynamics SS3 are a bit more reasonably priced.

Buy the pre-'19 model year trd oem halogen fogs. I don't have the part number offhand. They use an H11 (don't install an H9, they do not have an internal glare cap, instead relying on glare control from the filament by the h11's solid cap material) bulb, compared to the low power, low luminance H16 type fog lamps that come on other models and later years.

The lens can be tinted by using either kapton tape/sheet (will get you the correct filtration for selective yellow color, is cheap, will hold up to the heat and is easy to peel off and replace if it gets nicked by road debris) or duplicolor metalcast anodize yellow spray paint (2-3 medium coats works well in my experience, and also results in the correct yellow color).

Diode dynamics SS3 Sports are very good, but they do not run hot enough to keep the lens free of snow/ice buildup in cold weather.

That's actually a great point and something that I had not considered for snow and freezing rain conditions, I definitely wouldn't want them getting iced up and obstructed.

The next mods I'm planning are
- Amber Road Safe Fogs
- Stealth 32" Light Bar
- Heated seats and covers (I think clazzio has the single insert dual seat adjustment knob?)
- Removing my throttle controller and installing an AuxBeam switch unit
- 12V Anderson connector mounted near bed.

 

The <'19 trd fogs, kapton tape and a good set of h11's will definitely come in under budget and work well, then. My DD SS3 Sports work well in rain and fog, but I didn't have them mounted on my winter vehicle. Crash's testing shows they will ice over though

 

I second the Elites...they are very bright. I previously had XB LED fogs...and the elites are way brighter.
DD usually runs 15-20% off sale for black friday/cyber monday, which is just around the corner, so you will come in under $200.

 

my DD max fog lights seem to run hot enough for melting snow. at least the few times i have been stuck in it

 

They do make stickers that make it sorta amber for cheap too lol

Unfortunately you do really get what you pay for with the Taco fogs. I had the DD SS3 Pro’s, less than the elite but more than the sports, and they were outstanding. Probably about 350 US? (Not on sale)

I also have Morimoto XB Type T fog lights. I got them off of TacomaBeast for $130 (used a promo code to get $20 from the original $150). They have a bright output and extremely easy to install and adjust. They work nicely for me when I'm on dirt trails at night compared to the stock ones. The housing is black and it's a nice aesthetic touch when the fog lights are off.

 

For two years in a row now I've had problems with snow packing into the recess around the fog lights, adhering to the lenses and rendering them useless.

The DD Max setup is the only LED option that gets hot enough to melt snow. Seems like a super product but, unfortunately, they're too expensive for something I have no need to use on a regular basis. That said, I went retro on the advice of crashnburn80 and found some H11 halogen fogs from the 2016-19 TRD trucks (part #s: 812200802000 812100802000). Vosla selective yellow H11's are the lamp. Total cost of this setup was about $120.

Winter is coming. I'll report back with results.
