Simon passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at sunset. He was 3 months shy of his 18th Birthday. I got him at 8 weeks old and he and I joined TW a month later in April of 2007. He became my screen name & avatar. He was my first dog and dachshund after retiring from the Army. We loved both our 2006 and 2013 Tacomas. He did everything with me until his declining health in January. We managed to sneak in one great camping trip and swim this summer. Letting him go was the hardest decision of my life, but it was the right decision. I will miss him so much.
Though I don't get onto TW as much as I use to, it was, as well as Simon's, a big part of my life for many years. I guess I felt I just needed to share about my little guy's passing.
Our adventures and shenanigans will live on forever. Run free Simon until we meet again.

OMG Judy...... I am so sorry for your loss......Please reach out if you want or need to talk. 18 years is a very great age for a fur baby. Pets are part of our families and the grief is no smaller then when another loved one passes away. I have a Half doxin/ Half Beagle myself and it is amazing how much unconditional love they can give. Once again, so sorry for your loss.....:(

    Thank you. TACOTU3
Yep I bet they are romping and telling stories.
    Thank youb Jim.
    Thank you John
    Thank you Scott
Thank you Rob. You're absolutely right. I was lucky he picked me. I wasn't even looking for a dog, but had paid a neighbors' phone bill who was in hard times. I told her to pay me back when she got back on her feet. Few days later she told me her sister raised dachshunds, would I be interested in one? She sent me Simon's picture. He was the runt and so cute. I said sure, the rest is history. Definitely got the best out of that deal.
    Thank you TartanEagle

Thanks Jeff. He lived a full, loved life. No regrets even when it hurts like mofo.
Aww thank you Jared much appreciated!! I know so many before me had to make similar decisions. Some don't because of sudden loss, or they go missing. I felt honored to be his mom every day. He loved his adventures in the Tacoma. The tundras not so much lol. Much harder to look out the window. How cute your pup must be! What him or her a squeeze for me.
Aww thank you Crystal. I loved him and held him everyday until his little container plum wore out. He was a good boy! Appreciate the kind words.

The hardest! He showed me the signs so I knew it couldn't be about my fear of losing him any longer. It needed to be about him. Such a good boy he was all the way till the end.

I understand your feelings. I've been through it many times throughout the years (the last crossing over about 3 weeks ago), and as much as we hate that last day, we get a hell of a deal of so many wonderful days and memories with them. It's obvious that you gave Simon a wonderful life, and I certainly hope that he's having a great time at the Rainbow Bridge with the pups waiting for me, as he'll someday greet you, again!
Take the time you need to mourn, but I hope that you'll open your heart and your home to having another wonderful little fuzzball in your life, when you're ready.
