I told them I needed time to see if I could find some tires for it and they said they couldn’t hold for me past this weekend.

 

Who said anything about holding it, why is that even mentioned

So a few weeks ago after I changed the 4runner's oil I must have forgotten to tighten the bolts back down on the back half of the skid plate, because that fucker yeeted itself on a moderately high speed turn one morning on my way to work.

Since then I figured it was probably smashed to oblivion and picked up by a street cleaner or whatever.

Well on my way to work this AM, when what to my wondering eyes should appear...but a back half of a 3.4l Toyota skid plate (mine) half hidden in a bush on the side of the busy street. You bet I grabbed that thing. Was keeping my leaks in check.

 

I’d just have to risk someone else picking it up while I decide. But whatever, it’s not like these are super rare or anything.

 

The way you are acting, you actually are treating this specimen as if it is rare though

Well this one has just had the cooling system and most of the suspension overhauled. It has a lot going for it.

 

Suspension on an IFS rig is super quick and easy

Cooling system is what, a radiator, thermostat, some coolant, and at most a water pump?

Who am I kidding...

 

Making progress today, done with one project, on to the next

 

Metal coolant Ts, hoses, rear heater lines, fan clutch, timing belt, water pump. It’s all been done recently, along with a 2” OME lift.

Did you add a locker to the 2nd gen or did yours have it?

 

The real question is, replace all the hard ware or just the shoes and drums?

hardware doesn't look that old

I remember having a mod day with some friends and we got a parts kit from Napa right off the shelf

Worked great and was easy

 

Yeaaa I have no idea how to do it, would need to go find a write up

I initially figured eh, whatever but then I started realizing how much it was keeping that damn rear main seal leak from getting on the ground.

 

I remember it happening on the way to school, just before the weekend started

Following week I ended up seeing it when I was taking Biscuit or Bronx to the vet so you bet your ass I pulled over for it

They're expensive for some reason on an 80 series

Forgot you had that leak though; we need a mod day!

 

It's pretty easy how the springs and all fit in place

Make sure you adjust them afterward
