    2012 TRD Off Road 4.0L Auto. 4x4.
Cruise Control does not always come on & may or may not engage once on.
    Sometimes works perfectly as expected.

    Please Advise.

Spiral cable/clock spring is the typical point of failure with intermittent cruise controller operations.

Plunger switch behind the brake pedal is another place to inspect. Make sure you have correct clearance.

I've heard, Clock Spring, Brake Light Switch, & Speed Sensor(s).

Turn the steering wheel to different spots.
Press the CC button and if it comes on. Keep turning the wheel and trying.
If it comes on in certain spots, and not others, it the clock spring.

So yesterday, CC would not come on. I tried 12-15 different positions w/ steering wheel, all the way left & right & several places in-between, still nothing. After @ 15mi down the road, CC decided to come on but would not engage after about another 10mi or so it engaged. Then other time it works as it should or not at all..

Have you tried removing the plunger from behind the break pedal? Takes 2 minutes. This is the plunger that turns CC off when you use your break. The clearance between the plunger and pedal is pretty tight. If for some reason those bits are in contact, out of adjustment, not snugged down all the way, CC will not work properly.
