I have a 2007 Tacoma and I believe my transmission is out which isn’t what I’m asking advice for but it’s sat since June while I’ve found someone to fix it and save money for it cause no one where I live works on Toyotas apparently and while I’ve tried to start it weekly I didn’t do it for about 2-3 weeks can’t remember exactly so I boosted it after work yesterday around 10 pm and let it run for 30 minutes or so and came back to a random knock so I shut it off and came back out this morning to turn it on to see if it magically went away and it didn’t but it went away after it got up to temp and done the same thing as I’m typing this so would anyone have a suggestion on what it might be causing to do it

Oil is good I just changed it before it quit pulling. No clue on the transmission fluid cause it’s a sealed transmission with no dipstick I know before it went out it kept throwing codes for two solenoids about a 2-4 weeks before it went out

That's the thing with our trucks, the sealed transmission. It still has a drain plug and a fill plug, the question is on its history. Do you know when the last time the fluid was changed? Just because it's a sealed transmission, doesn't mean that it cannot be serviced. Per the manual, it is recommended that the transmission fluid be drained every 30-60k or every 2-4 years. We're just trying to determine if it could be something as simple as it needs a service or if there could be other issues. With that said, there are some that are in the schoolhouse of if the fluid hasn't been changes up to this point, there's no reason to change it now as it may do more harm than good.

No clue on when the transmission fluid was last changed I bought the truck a little over a year ago and have put around 23k on it since I got it so if I had to assume I’m not going to guarantee it’s not been changed in a long time if ever

I’d first try find out where the knocking noise is coming from.
Knocking isn’t good. If it’s coming from the engine, you might want to consider your options.
And what order you plan to tackle the job…..

One thing that may help you triangulate where the source of the sound is coming from would be to pick up one of these stethoscopes. Ironically, I need to pick one up to identify where a chattering is happening on my vehicle too.

On the right track to 1st see where the knock is coming from.

We dont know much about your trucks whole overall condition. From the little discription given, it could be even a slight rod knock that goes away when warm. We know you have transmission issues so if you can isolate them and make sure the other main components are solid before jumping in to a non stop repair.

How well do you know this truck? Is the engine in solid condition? The suspention? Brakes? If so get the exacts of what you have so we can know what we are dealing with to help.

Example: 2006 4.0/ auto 4x4. 145,000 miles. Ive owned it 2 years. Of which its sat for 2 months with a dead battery because it keep going dead. It ran good but idles rough and knocks until warmed up. The transmission shifts good but slips badly when under a load....
    Something like that.
