I was doing an oil change and noticed this braided cable hanging above me. Any idea what this is for?

    2014 Taco, 6 speed manual, 4.0.

It’s your transfer case breather. There should be a place for it to clip higher in the engine bay.

Looks like your breather tube. It should be mounted to your driver side fender well. Look under the hood, there should be 2 mounted there.

I'm guessing the plastic clip broke.

Here it is on the drivers side inner fender. The other one is for the transmission.

So I don't believe it's one of those. First picture is I believe those. This is now on the passenger side of the transmission. The picture shows where it's connected to the transmission. Now I just need to know where to mount it

Pretty sure that's the breather for the manual transmission.
I have an Auto, or I'd go snap a pic and show you where it goes.
I "think" it mounts between the firewall and the passenger side cylinder head. Or at least in that general location..

Some where on this site, I posted pictures of the Auto breather. (But that wont help you)

@Dm93 might be able to take a look at his.

To give a little more detail. It seems to be located almost where my shifter is located within the truck. The cable is on the passenger side and is roughly 31.5in long. It wouldn't make it to the engine bay. I'm just not seeing any kind of mount or anything and I'm afraid that it might be something mounted on top of the transmission, in which I would have no idea how to make that happen

Thats because the 6 speed trans breather doesn't go all the way up to the top of the engine bay, it goes about only half way up the firewall and clips into a small bracket. Its located just behind the engine almost right in the middle. You can see mine in the pictures below for reference

The good news is that you can fish it up from the top if you dangle down some wire or something and tie it to it and pull it up, you will probably need to crawl on top of your engine to get it back into its clip though. The clip it goes into is located on one of the transmission bellhousing bolts BTW. I remember this very clearly because I just dropped my transmission not too long ago.

And PS; I think the other two breathers that are next to the battery are the front diff and diff actuator IIRC but don't quote me on that.
