Hi folks, I searched for this issue but didn’t see quite what I’m experiencing posted before.

Sometimes while towing, if I press on the brake the back up camera view shows in the rear view mirror, and the dash shows R lit up (as well as D). This never happens while not towing, and it only happens intermittently while towing; maybe once in 15 applications of the brake. When I let off the brake, the camera view and R go away.

I’d guess some kind of sensor issue, but all my Googling has only led to results for in-bumper back up/reverse sensors.

It sounds like you have an issue with the trailer wiring brake light circuit, bleeding over onto the the reverse light circuit.
I'd have to study the diagrams and see where the most likely spot is.

I do have a question. Is it only one trailer causing this?
Or does it do it with other trailers? (If you have towed others?)

Also, is the trailer connector a 7-pin? Or a 4-pin?
If you are using a 7 to 4 pin adapter, try a different adapter.
I've seen the adapters cause issues.......They don't last forever.
And they die faster if exposed to the weather.

We do have a second trailer but haven’t towed it yet. I could if needed to narrow down the problem.

    It’s a 7 pin.

I’ve also noticed our electronic brake control isn’t working and I haven’t had a chance to see if the two things might be related or if that’s a totally separate issue.
